John, if there are black spots on the negative, it could be the printout of a retained silver image caused by bubbles in the fix. This would leave bubbles of unfixed emulsion that turned black.

Insufficient treatment of any negative during fixation can lead to black areas on the negative. This will give light spots on the print.

but we still have to see what it looks like and unfortunately the OP is unable to
show us what it is :sad:

ron, would REFIXING his film get rid of the spots or is it "too late" ?
