Tips on using a 28 mm?

Thank you all very much, your suggestions have really helped me figure out where to start with this. Matt the idea of shooting a 50 alongside the 28 sounds perfect for me it will definitely help see side by side the differences and aid composition. I've already set aside the weekend and picked several places to go. Looking forward to learning something new. If nothing else it will make me look at things differently.

28 + 50mm lenses is what I carry 90% of the time. Unless I want to frame a detail, I keep the 28mm mounted on my SLR.

And like Darkosaric said, use for a while your 28mm and the 50mm will become your favorite tele-lens!

Prefocus to four feet.

This is exactly what I did for my Mummers series: 28mm lens, f/8-11, focus preset at 4ft. Doing so, you pay more attention to what you frame, not the gear anymore.
