I just picked up a D5 enlarger with the diochronic head, but it did not come with a timer.

Any suggestions?

Did it come with the voltage stabilizer? If not, you can probably find the combination timer/stabilizer on ebay...

not to hijack your thread but...

do you need a voltage stabilizer with a condenser head?

Probably wouldn't hurt, but no, not at all. You certainly do with the dichroic head that david b's got, though, for colour work. I have two D5's, one with the condensor head, the other with the dichro head so I don't have to bother swapping. I use a pretty basic timer with the condensor set-up, with no problems.
