Time-travel back to 1988...what were you using?--B&W

As best I remember during the '80s I was using a Praktica LTL with 28, 50, 135 and 200mm lenses. At some point my then father-in-law gave me a Pentax k1000 he'd found in the trunk of a rental car; he had been unable to determine the owner. I liked the camera, and bought a used Pentax MX, then at some point a used Pentax LX ... and the rest is history.

Most of my shooting was on C41 stuff, with occasional slide shooting. No darkroom work at that time.

Wow, 1988 was a different lifetime but good, good times.

1. Canon F1n's, A1 & T90 as back-ups. Best if I don't remember the lenses I had to go with them!
2. Velvia, Velvia and more Velvia. Provia 100. Fuji Press 1600. FP4, XP-2 & HP5.
3. Cibachromes & Ilford Multigrade.
4. Durst 504's.

I was 24. Starting grad school. My camera was an OM-3. Film was Tri-x. Paper was Oriental Seagull. I was printing on the school's omega enlargers. Good times.

1988 I purchased my second Pentax K1000 body, a 55mm lens for my Pentax 6X7 and I believe I bought the metered pentaprism (although it could have been 1989) for the 6X7. I had just started working as the black and white printer at a custom photo lab. I would buy my own paper and process my film and use the darkroom to print my work on my own time. It was great for a while, but I worked there too long. I think printing in a darkroom for 40 hours a week for years killed my enthusiasm for photography. Luckily, I got bitten again by the photography bug a few years ago.

I used a lot of types of film but my favorite at the time was 120/220 Plus-X processed in Rodinal.

Happy to see that there is another APUGer who finds this type of post rather pointless. I don't care what equipment people used in 1988. Surely there must be other more interesting things. For example I was just listening to an interview with John Garrett, a Florida based photographer. He has been taking pictures of Greek sculptures and printing them on aluminum sheets. The photos will be displayed at the National Archeological Museum in Athens. One photo is 8x10 feet in size! Afterwards some of the photos will be on display at the Greek consulate in New York City.

In 1988 I was shooting HP5 and FP4 developed in Microphen. I was shooting an F-1n and a pair of FTbs. I still use the F-1n once in a while. The FTbs were sold last month.

The point is to make people recall some pleasant memories... sometimes I find sharing them is a nice thing to do...

I looked briefly on the net for information but found nothing about the exhibit. I have a feeling that the show has not been set up yet. If you find out anything more I am sure that APUG readers will be interested. Your impressions of the show would also be an interesting post.

I had 3 Pentax ME supers with 1 having a motor drive. Typically 1 loaded with Ektachrome 100 and 1 with 800. The 3rd would have B&W tri x. I did my own E6 and slide mounting and used my Durst M601 for the B&W. I also had a Minolta Autocord, Yashica D and Mat. I still have all of it except the Minolta Autocord.

I started photography in 1988. My first camera was a found Minolta 7000AF with a 35-70 zoom. I was hooked right away and upgraded to a Canon T-90 and Canon F1N, Olympic (Lake Placid) edition.
My most used films were Tri-X and HP5.

In 1988, I was shooting a Canon A-1, with the motor drive. Used the high speed setting to get my five year old son jumping into a swimming pool. Thought I was oh, so cool. Burned half a roll of film on one jump. (He hesitated.

Bought my first Rolleicord around then, and my first medium format folder.

Film... For the Canon is Kodachrome 64. I did not like the look of negative prints.

hard to think back, but it was proably a low point for Photography, I had just spent half a year on a contact where my job involved shooting 16,000 shots a day of documents on an automated system using a Kodak MRD-2 Camera Head on Kodak Datacapture Microfilm. processing done by a secure lab so I never saw the results, just got general feedback...

What little I did for myself at that time was mostly on Movie Negative short ends sent away for slides on MP print film. (the old get a free roll with every roll processed.)
