Well, I decided this would make a good topic. I haven't seen anything like this other than that "even-steven" thread, but this isn't entirely the same.

I'll start it off with saying I got a Minolta Flash Meter II for $4, a Yashica T4 for free, a Pentax K1000 (with strap and 50mm f/1.8) for $2, two Polaroid SX-70s ($10 each), a myriad of Polaroid folders, another myriad of Polaroid 600-series cameras, a big Minolta Maxxum kit ($7), and some stainless-steel reels that I got for a quarter a piece including a 120 reel. Oh, and I just found a Mamiya/Sekor 55mm f/1.8 for a dollar.

Your turn!

I haven't had any great thrift store finds, but my dream is to walk into a secondhand book shop one day and find William Henry Fox Talbot's Notebook L (never found to date).

My list is longer but the fun bits have been 2 Nikon F2's with three or four nice primes for 70$, A 35mm Angineiux f/2.5 for 12$, A Polaroid 600SE with lens for 22$, about six Olympus XA's for a couple of bucks a pop. The odds aren't good but when you do find something you feel like a rock star.

The ones I can remember off the top of my head are an Olympus XA4 for $1, an XA with original box for $5, an Anniversary Speed Graphic and two Kodak folders for $25, a Canon A1 for $15, and a Nikon R8 Super 8 camera in near-mint condition for $25.

How about the one that got away? Well, not got away... there was (and still is) this Nikkromat FTN in mint condition in a glass case, with a chrome nosed 50mm 1.4 lens, all for $199. I was too poor to buy it. Still am. It's still there I'm sure.

I got a new Armani suit for all of $20 once. (There was also a Calvin Klein but it was too big for me)
Still hanging out for that great camera/lens find though...

An old (working) Diana camera -- marked $1.00, but only 75 cents when I brought it to the counter.

I've looked and looked but haven't found anything. Must be going to the wrong thrift stores.

Try Goodwill and Salvation Army if they have them in your area. We have several Goodwill stores all within 20 miles of my home, one Salvation Army, a Women's Center thrift shop, and 4 or so Humane Society thrift shops.

Deja vu anyone? (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

But in the spirit of cooperation ...

A usable camera bag, with a Contax 167MT body and a bunch of usable filters and other accessories inside.

Many of the filters are B & W and of sizes I can use.

And the Contax body?

I gave it to another APUG member who creates magic with her Contax stuff, but who was struggling with some repair issues on her other Contax body.

Not bad for $14.00.

I tried searching through a few boards, and even used the search feature, but I didn't see anything. Oh well.

Over here there are only few thrift stores, but more goodwill shops. Often something inbetween: people in need of a home financing their hostel.

Typically the offer of cameras is very limited and prices are higher than on my favourite flea-markets. So I only pay them a visit when I pass them anyway, or when there is a once-years photo stuff offer where they put a lot of stuff on sale.

I guess my best deal at such a shop was a Osram Dunco 10 ligh,t originally packed, for a few euros.

I once found a whole box of JOBO tanks and reels and bottles at Goodwill. Paid $5 for the box. Sold most everything on the net for $150. Still have some reels that I cannot figure out what tank they go to, to big for the 1500 series, too small for the 2400 series.

I got many cameras from the Thrift Store but my best find was a Nikon F with a 24mm lens for $14.99. I posted this link at the time:

I found an original Leica 0 (1923) in rather good condition and a very old Nikon rangefinder M (1950) in an old wooden box in the back of a second hand store. They asked only $10 for it since the couldn't guarantee it would still function.

And then I woke up - it was a nice dream ...

I find Rokkor lenses at thrift stores around here every once in a while. Found a 45/2 and a 50/1.7 just recently. Gave them to my girlfriend that uses an X-370.

The best I've ever done was an Olympus OM 10 with 50mm f1.8 and leather everready case for $30. all in "like new" condition. Additionally it was a 15% off day, so even less. Since the Olly won't function at all without a battery (the mirror won't return) and this one had no battery I wonder if they felt it was busted. A new battery, and it works fine for me! I've added the manual adaptor, the winder, and the dedicated flash. A pleasant piece of kit.

Agfa Rondiax 35U $5
Beseler motor base $10

Hello from a fellow Mid-Michigander! May I ask where you're from? I'm in Bay City, home to Michigan's largest antique dealer, which is seemingly where anything interesting ends up - usually with a very inflated price tag. Thrift stores have so far been a lost cause here!
