Film photography seems to be alive and well in both Kyoto and Tokyo. I recently visited both and saw lots of people with film cameras out and about in the regular streets, shrines, temples and parks. I was definitely not alone in shooting film, though my std 8mm cine camera did gain lots of attention. Not least from monks at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, one of whom asked me if it was video tape...when I said "film" he remarked "very old. Very cool". I also got interest from the young people out at night drinking in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Anyway, I visited three shops where I found film for sale.

Firstly Bic Camera right by one of the exits of Shinjuku station has a small but decent selection

Secondly. Yodobashi Akiba, Chiyoda City Tokyo - great selection of films and formats. Good selection of film cameras. Film section as big as some supermarkets and way more popular than the digital cameras.

Finally Kitamura Camera, Shinjuku - I didn't go in but they had a huge display of film visible from the window. And were doing good business.

Photos should be identified by the first letter of the file name.

Cool! So maybe this explains the paucity of Fujifilm reversal films elsewhere, particularly here in America: with their production limited by raw material supply-chain difficulties, Fujifilm are prioritizing their home market - where, by the way, it seems their films retail for around twice as much as they do here in America (where they are almost-perpetually out-of-stock). Presumably Fujifilm is seeing a comparable cut of that domestic price action? That would explain a lot.

Enviable! In Hong Kong, there are only a few small shops left; while common flims are still available, I usually have to look for shops in alleyways or upstairs.

Japan is a gem for film photographers....film is widely available.
Tokyo may be the world epicenter for film sales......shops all over the city sell film & lots of it!
