There is an interesting and never to be seen event happening in New York City on 13th January 2008. Please see the link
http://www.cunard.com/rendezvous/

With these three ships sailing out together with the Statue of Liberty in the background and framed in fireworks is beyond description! I would like to be there for this event.

In the enclosed link to Cunard, they suggest the following as good viewing areas.
1. Hudson River Park
2. The Esplanade
3. Robert Wagner Park
4. Battery Park

The QE2 berths at Pier 92 and the Queen Victoria berths at Pier 88. These Piers are between 47th and 53rd streets. The Queen Mary2 berths at Pier 12 at the Brooklyn Cruise terminal at Red Hook across from Govenors Island.
My thoughts and questions are: If you are at the southern most of the listed viewing sites which is Battery park and the Queen Mary2 pulls out of her berth at Red Hook into mid channel, won't all you see of her is the stern going away. If one draws an imaginary line between Liberty island and any of the viewing sites, I don't see any way to get the ship and the Statue in the same photo frame (unless you use a very wide angle lens).
It would seem as though you would get a better view from Wolcott Street, Coffey Street or Conover Street in Red Hook. I don't know, it might be a prohibited area.
Not knowing how far apart these three ships will be strung apart or the distance they will be from the viewing area, I'm thinking of taking a 28-200 zoom lens for my Nikon. The fireworks time is 7pm which will be dark. I'm thinking of using a 200 ASA color negative film in one camera and some 400 ASA B&W film in the other, and of course using a tripod IF allowed.
Sounds to me like a iffy shot of being in the right place at the right time.

ANY OF YOU FOLKS heard anything about this event OR have any ideas or tips to help me capture this unusual moment? I have to travel about 200+ miles to get there, get a room for the night and travel 200+ miles back home again. I'd like to think I'd have a chance to get a reasonable image or two.
All the best,
Sam
