Here is an article from Silvergrain Classics. It is consistent with much of the discussion here. It was posted over at another photo site.

I posted a link to this article in post #22, and it was largely disregarded: people were more interested in bitching about the expense, and less interested in understanding why price increases are what they are.

I read it. It is a well-written article that seems to clearly explain history without making wild speculation.

I just read that pizza has gone up 20% about the same as film. So now I have a choice between eating or shooting.

Well, we know some things are necessity of life. So much for eating, eh?

making pizza is a fraction of the cost ( its the cheese that is $$ ). make your own and you won't go back.
feel free to PM me for info I've been making it regularly for 20+ years ... its no effort and better than the shoppe, hate to say it, but you'll end up a snob .. ( ps that 's objective, not subjective opinion )

I guess it is - but only sort of. I kid you not, I love a Domino’s pepperoni pizza. Not that I don’t like some higher brow pizzas, but I usually find them disappointing and not filling enough. Especially the authentic thin crap.
Oh dear… when I’m faced with that problem I have a salad to go with the pizza and beer. It aids digestion too!

Nice example of a pizza you've made. Looks wonderful. I admit I will eat most any pizza (without nasty mystery meat, hamburger is the worse)

I love a good pizza.

The nearest drugstore used to sell the 3-pack at 38.99$ before ditching films about a year ago. There's another drugstore in the vicinity that sells Kodak Ultramax 400 1x24exp at 9.95$.

The NEW Fuji film is even more. Fujifilm Superia XTRA at Freestyle was $7.49/roll (135-36). Fujifilm Superia Premium 400 is $14.99.

Kodak and Fuji are two legs of the photographic film platform. A platform needs at least 3 legs. (and a leg needs color + B&W film).

i make my own and will never order out when at home. cost me less than $1.50 for a large pizza and tastes better when i make it. even my boys say so and they are pizza experts. too bad i cant make film at home easily! the problem is I really love a 4 day fermented dough and I have I want it now issues

Hey, get back on topic!
Does Fomapan taste better than Tri-X?
What about Fuji with Brie or Adox with Limburger?

I could be wrong but I detect that the thread may be straying very slightly from its original purpose:smile: On the bright side we at least seemed to have stepped back from the Soapbox precipice

yum, barely braised in a fine Metol and Red Winol, you'd need a lipitor crumble on top ( all that cellulose! )

Perhaps we've discovered the foolproof method of diverting threads from that fate! Now about my sourdough starter...

While this thread has been a "slice", it is in danger of being relegated to "off topic" purgatory ......
