I am curious to try out the above films what are they like with HC:110 Dilution B and Rodinal 1:50 at box speed at 20c?

I've tried a couple of rolls of the Adox CHM-400. I guess I was sucked in by the claim that it "handles like HP-5+". Granted, I've only shot two rolls of the stuff but so far, I'm inclined to reject the claim as marketing hype. It seems to be a fine film in its own right but, I don't really think it looks like HP-5+.

I've got a box of the Foma 200 in the fridge. Haven't tried it yet. I see lots of other folks getting really nice results with this stuff though. I'm really excited to try it. Looks delicious. I don't do Rodinal (sinner!) but will try my two favorites HC-110 dil D and D-23 with and without a alkaline afterbath.

I was told by JandC that it is absoultely Hp5+, no ifs or buts.

Concerning Foma 200, the general wisdom about this film is that it won't produce its stated box speed in anything but speed-enhancing developers. Thus, if you use Rodinal, you'll probably want to expose it at EI 100 or 125 to get the best results. I'm not sure about HC110, though.

That said, I do like the film, particularly in PC-Glycol. I've not done any formal speed testing with this film, but exposing at 200 seems to work well for me with this combination. I've developed a couple of rolls in DS-12, and that combination seems to lose a bit of shadow detail, so I expect lowering the speed a bit would be appropriate with that combination.

Check out my gallery if you want to see what foma 200 exposed at 100 and developed in Rodinal 1+50 with reduced agitatation looks like.

Hope this helps,

Was your development time and agitation regime?

68F, total development time 16 minutes, agitation 15s initial (6 gentle inversions of Paterson tank) then 15s every 5 minutes.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Foma For You

Bill, I'm surprised you haven't looked on Flic*r for the answers.

This will take you to a test made with Foma & Rodinal 1:50. But from the latest postings, it looks like the AMA47 developer brings out a touch more shadow detail.

Got Foma in the fridge right now! It's cheap from Freestyle, and you can have it as house brand, or straight. The Adox is HP5+ rebranded until they run out. Check the forums @ Fotoimpex for direct & updated info.
