I don't care how far off-topic it is, it's all very interesting.
The distribution 'base' could be divvied up to 3 additional, dedicated bases for each State — one for Vic/TAS, NSW/QLD and NT/WA (if any demand at all in that neck of the woods)?

The last time I did a bulk order it was more expensive in the end since I had to pay a fraction of the post from USA->Australia then from Melbourne->Brisbane. The only person who benefited was the organizer.

There are like 3 active APUG users in Brisbane...

I would say it is better to avoid double handling. Direct from importer to buyer is the most ideal way.

If i can set up good relationships with other stores to buy in larger bulk quantities then it is definitely viable.
Shipping is definitely the potential deal breaker.

Also, if i buy 100x of each rollfilm product and it doesn't sell then i risk having the product get too close to expiry and then be stuck selling the product at a loss.

I'm sure i'd also run into problems with the distributors of the various products here.

Remember though you'd be catering for the full spectrum of photographers' filmstock needs, not solely one particular format when there are several e.g. 120, 5x4, 35mm, 120, reversal and neg, B&W/colour etc. The challenge is to only bring in what you know will sell within a reasonable time frame, otherwise the stock could potentially expire. Maybe a poll on APUG to determine what and how much people use??

Encouraging, but there's also a bit of digital-age ignorance showing there with regard to availability of film etc. Would love to have got a brand new FM3a for $500, if indeed that is what he paid.

Perhaps this guy has never had the pleasure of throwing up a well exposed trannie onto a shining white glass bead screen. I shoot both digital and film and appreciate digital for its convenience but I don't think it holds the same sheer pleasure as working with film does for me. I am still buying 35mm film equipment and buying my film in 'bricks'. I will say that my film use is restricted to color transparency and BW. Long live film!

I try to stay away from gun hoes. Regular hoes are scary enough.

It amazes me how things go sometimes. The guy's just thinking about picking up a Nikon film SLR to "have some fun with" and does he find an old Nikomat or FM? No! He happens to "come across a Nikon FM3a in my local shop in black, and completely unused". Man, talk about beginner's luck!:rolleyes:

Whirlpool is silly. It really is just silly and a waste of otherwise productive time for anybody. Hundreds of computer geeks who do nothing but sit and clack at keyboards all day on that forum. And a couple are extremely abusive types too (I know, I was flamed for politely disproving a "head honcho's" post!). Checked with a colleague involved in broadband here in Geelong and he observed much of the "amateurish info-knowledge" is "not factual stuff...potentially hazardous". If I want broadband advice I certainly don't wave a flag on Whirlpool.

Couldn't agree more! Lost track of Whirlpool years ago! The place always reeked of "instant experts" and all sorts of "internaut" nutcases.
Not worth the time and effort to seek out the truth.
