This does not seem to be addressed anywhere. Can the as-17 or any nikon F3 adaptor enable TTL flash with third party flashes, or am I limited to Nikon if I want TTL?
Thank you.
Bob's right. I have it and there are no problems. A plus is that the adapter is inexpensive used, not difficult to find, and works with all TTL capable Sunpaks.
I wish to use the metz 45 ct-4 or 5. Would the sca 345 or C 60 be appropriate? What is confusing is the absence of info on the various metz adaptors i.e straight answer. There are bargains on these adaptors on ebay.
Supposedly this Non-TTL flash adapter works for TTL. Its covered briefly on the MIR site, and is backed up by one review on B&H. I never bought one as I have the SB-16 with the F3 mount.
That adapter will only work in TTL with flashes that support the non-standard F3 TTL protocols and have a standard hot shoe. If you look at Nikon's AS-17 or the Sunpak NE-3D F3 module, you'll see they have a switch setup for inputting the ISO film speed. It might work with a SB16B with the hot shoe module, haven't tried it, my F3 type flashes all have the funky F3 foot.
Otherwise it works fine for any Auto mode thyristor type flash, and costs less that the Nikon equivalent.
