I’m trying to find a supplier in the UK for Thiourea. In the past I have been able to buy direct from a couple of eBay sellers, but recently it appears to be unavailable.
I found this online David. Is this suitable for you?
Prices start at £23.90

Keith, thanks for that info. I did also find that myself and I believe it is shipped from India, and I’m a little doubtful of the source and purity.

You'll find that many/most commodity chemicals are produced in Asia, and usually to the same specifications as Western production. I wouldn't hesitate purchasing Indian thiourea. My main concern with Sigma would be the hassle of ordering a small quantity there. Usually there's a retailer somewhere that's easier to use for a small order and/or private individual. Sorry, I don't know specific sources in the UK since I never shop there, but I imagine there must be equivalents to the channels I use here.

Use extreme caution when handling. Tiny amounts can fog AgX. A darkroom contaminated with it may be nearly impossible to decontaminate.

Yes, don't get it on film or paper, or in silver halide emulsions or the tools and ingredients used in making and processing them.

Having said that, I've extensively used thiourea (for sepia and gold toning), never took particular cautions except rinsing my tools/trays etc when I'm done and I've never ever run into a fogging problem because of it. A word of caution is in place, but there's no need for extreme concern. For instance, thiourea doesn't have the habit of vaporizing/offgassing, so it's easy to control.

Thank you for the warning Koraks, I’ve been using Thiourea for sepia toning for a number of years and I have learned how to handle it. Strange that it’s become unavailable in the UK.

Yes, I'm surprised, too. It may have something to do with the suspicions of it being a carcinogen/mutagenic which might limit availability to private individuals. However, as a core building block in the chemical industry, there are tons of the stuff going about, also in the UK, so I'm confident that you'll tap into a supply for darkroom use.
