To generate max interest from those who either know the photographer or have vaguely heard of him it may be worth changing thread title to reflect the correct spelling of his name - thibaud poirier

Just a thought

THIBAUD POIRIER

La Défense at Night

Cold, soulless, rigid. It is often through these uncomplimentary adjectives that is described the neighborhood of La Defense. The world already knows Paris and its iconic streets; but much fewer know this side of the city. Europe's largest business district brings in hundreds of thousands of workers each day, who walk on its concrete slabs without raising the slightest glance at the majesty that surrounds them. Structures of glass and steel, curves that should be straight, lines that should be curved, La Défense is definitely the rebellious child of Paris for whom architectural uniformity was never its goal.

For this series, I decided to get up high in order to look down and admire this complex. At night, restlessness calms down giving way to a whole new neighborhood. Quiet, rebel and majestic, these are the adjectives I offer you.

There is a pool/fountain with a Miro sculpture near the building in the first photo. That building also lines up with the Arc d'Triomphe, the obelisk in Place de Concorde and the Louvre, making the worlds longest urban axis. Nothing to do with the photography (which is interesting) but still a somewhat curious factoid.

That IS interesting.

I've not been to Paris for a decade.... stayed with friends for a week in a beautiful old suburb, took the train daily into the city. Saw la Défense only from the train...walked everywhere and had no time for it, was totally dedicated to the classic scenes, museums, and markets. My main regrets are that I couldn't photograph Napoleon's gigantic tomb (seemed impossible with 24mm) and...that I didn't seriously pursue immigration. I found the French warm and considerate, but I find NYC cops that way too.
