any good accurate digital thermometer should suffice. One way to test accuracy is to measure ice water (it should be 0 or 32). You can try tempting fate by testing boiling water.

Alcohol or spirit thermometers should be accurate enough, so as long as it will measure 15℃ - 45℃ you should be okay. It's not so much the actual temperature, but the consistency of the readings if it's ½℃ off, and it's always that far off, then you can "tune" the thermometer by simply using a reading that is off the opposite amount. With spirit and mercury thermometers it's typical that if it's accurate when new, it will be accurate 20 years down the road, as long as the column of liquid is solid, they should always be stored in a place that is within their temperature range and with the bulb end down. If they sit horizontal for a long period of time, the liquid will settle to the bottom, and when put right again, the liquid will divide, the thermometer will then need replacing.

With dial type thermometers, they can go off with age and should be checked with a known good spirit thermometer occasionally. Some may be able to be recalibrated, most can not, and would need replacing.

Digital thermometers are like smoke detectors, the batteries should be replaced annually, or one day you get everything set up and find that your thermometer has dead batteries  This will always be on a day like a holiday when the only store in town that sells the ZX2-94379976 batteries that it takes is closed.

Freestyle sells one for about 25 bucks. I forgot what it is called, but it works just fine. It is long, skinny, and made of glass. For C-41, you need one accurate to 1/2 a degree F. For E-6, you need 1/4 degree accuracy.
