So no problem getting to the event, just a problem returning from the event. And no arrests for "putting people's lives in danger". Curious.

In a Washington Post article, the driver of the taxi said it was a ten minute journey:

“I don’t think I would call it a chase,” Singh said of his period driving the couple. “I never felt like I was in danger. It wasn’t like a car chase in a movie. They were quiet and seemed scared but it’s New York — it’s safe.”

Of course, the paparazzi are generally despicable.

Paparazzi.

Yeah, some will justify it by saying they are just "feeding the beast" and giving people what they crave. I still think it takes a special kind of creep to go as far as putting people's lives in danger just to get a shot.

Paparazzi give despicable people a bad name! 😡

It's not just f8 and be there anymore. It's now f8 and 60 mph and be all over them. The "beast" needs to wake up and quit buying and buying into tabloid crap!

I should indeed amend my post to state that there are conflicting versions.

Odd that the police didn't know about it. Oh, and the mayor of NYC doesn't believe it either. Some people will do anything to feel relevant, especially when someone's daddy was just crowned and his misses needs to be a star.

From CNN:

A local law enforcement source corroborated some of the couple’s account, telling CNN that they were followed by a “swarm” of paparazzi on Tuesday.

The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, said the incident was “reckless” and “irresponsible.”

Don't those plug-in "bug popper" devices get rid of paparazzi when they're attracted to the light?

Mostly more press for a couple of twits. Just a load of hooey.

Comes with deciding to feast on the beast that ye create then cry about it.

A lot harder to stay in the family than quit and move in with Tyler Perry 😂🤣

NYC police weigh in:

"...a photo agency later contended it was Harry and Meghan's security guards who acted recklessly."

Of course they're going to contend that. One only has to take a look at HBO's The Princess documentary to be reminded how ghoulish and despicable these people are.

I'm no fan of the monarchy, btw. But there isn't a part of their life I would desire, even for a minute.

Yes, the paparazzi would rather that Harry and Meghan lay down in the road so the paparazzi could run over them and then sell the photos of them doing it.

I doubt the mayor had any first hand knowledge, so anything he says is hardly corroboration... Like Diana before them, they seem to court publicity then complain when they get it... The police and taxi driver's accounts don't appear to accord with their spokesperson's descriptions... and it seems the couple are allowed to keep titles relating to Sussex when they don't live there or (as far as I can see) have anything to do with the place, which makes the titles utterly meaningless in my view...

They seem to be getting exactly what they want… attention and free publicity.

And regarding paparazzi in general … creepy…

Sorry, I know it's the popular, and cynical, argument, but I'm not buying it. I honestly believe they crave a more "normal" life—at least one in which they have some control over the fame that is imposed upon them. They were born in this. They didn't choose it. And they don't need the free publicity. If that's all they wanted, they would just go to every single event, stand there and let the paparazzi do their thing. Over and over again. And these creeps probably wouldn't shoot a single frame.

What you write is what my wife is constantly saying. So maybe that’s right… and maybe it isn’t. Who’s to really know. The indications are mixed messages and further confused by the media and star-struck admirers. All I know is that I’ve heard enough and long ago stopped caring about their family drama. I sincerely hope they get the opportunity to raise their children in as normal a way as is possible for them.

At least we seem to agree that the paparazzi are creeps!

On one of the news segments I heard interviews of actual pedestrians, motorists, and shop owners who saw it. The fools were driving up onto sidewalks and making illegal U-turns mid street, speeding in and out of lanes recklessly, and could have really injured or killed someone. But it's another category of demographic idiocy which demands that kind of gossipy tabloid nonsense. Remove the financial incentive, and maybe the Paparazzi will have to find other forms of employment, like driving city buses recklessly.

Ironically, the British tabloid press - the customers for much of the photographic output of the paparazzi - is one of the few print products that appears to be making money.

Hearst was the godfather of "yellow press" tabloids. I recently saw a PBS documentary of his life; and it seems he initially despised unprofessional journalism. But once income taxes were instituted in this country, and the Great Depression arrived, his many newspapers were losing business to racy tabloids, and he was nearly in bankruptcy, so decided to fight fire with fire and out-compete their tall tales with his own. I don't think that analysis is entirely true, because he also jump-started the Spanish-American war long before by publishing an account and an illustration of a totally fictitious event. The point is, people gravitate toward the sensational, true or not. Murdoch seems to be the current reincarnation of Hearst and his shenanigans.
Now the internet has made that propensity even worse. Nonsensical falsehood pays well. Every grocery and supermarket checkout lane had a magazine rack with National Enquirer prominent, fully of pasted-up composite fake photos so amateurishly done that the scissors marks were still visible; yet people still believed a lot of that nonsense. ... Liz and deceased Elvis aboard the same UFO as Bigfoot, and so forth.

There are no doubt some who prefer a tall story to reality just as some prefer fiction to documentaries.

But there are also plenty who side with anyone whose tales tally with their own socio-political viewpoint or agenda, regardless of whether there's a grain of truth in it. That cuts both ways and affects both sides of these sorts of public debates and makes them fruitless. "It's credible" should never be turned into "fact", but so often is.

The problem is, there's nothing credible at all in a lot of it. The more wild it is, the more it attracts attention and gains a captive audience, and rewards the perpetrators with advertising kickbacks. But yes, much of it is targeted toward those who have predetermined views or prejudices, or just are just plain foolish. Only the technology has changed, and made the whole process of deception algorithm automated. Deception is now industrial scale, and only going to get a lot worse. Don't people have anything better to do with their time? ... speaking of which, gotta go grab my camera pack and head out ... Don't think I'd make a good paparazzi-style photographer - I always prefer solitude and quiet.

From the linked article..................

The couple were left shaken by the incident, although ultimately no-one was hurt, their security detail told CNN.
Police said “numerous” photographers made the Sussexes’ transport “challenging,” but that there were no reported collisions, injuries or arrests.

In other words..............

the celebrity's cars drove recklessly for 2 hours, and the photographers followed them.
More publicity hunting from the two "Former Royals"

From what I've heard, isn't that normal for a New York City taxi driver? 😇
