A group of informal portraits done in classic diffused focus mode with the Kodak 8X10 during our final field session on the Per Volquartz FREE Workshop, Tonopah Nevada.

A blog with the 6 portraits is Dead Link Removed About a 5 minute read. You know the drill by now:D:D:D

If you will help Per in this important work of giving free workshops by purchasing one of his PRINTS, I will throw in one of these "portraits" printed in 8X10 contact wet darkroom mode on Kentmere paper. Your choice.

Incredible shots Jim, did you keep any technical info like exposure, film and developer?

The P&S shots were done at f6. Exposures were all the same, 1/25 + or - by internal Packard shutter. The B&L lens has no adustable aperture so these were done at f4. Film is Efke 100 developed in PMK Pyro. BTW for the worry warts, the PMK is a pre-mixed liquid batch from Photo Formulary that is about 3 years old now. The A solution is darker than Coca Cola, and the B solution "rattles". Still works fine.

Jim, as we have all come to expect and look forward to, your "tailgate" portraits are wonderful. I agree Jason's is very nice. Let me know when you grow tired of that cheap magic lantern lens and I will be more than happy to at least triple your investment.....maybe more! Call me!

I am so sorry I was not able to attend and represent the Boise LF'ers. Maybe Per would consider a similar workshop in Idaho. I am sure one and all had a great time in Area 51.

OK, Jon, you've bent my arm! I'll trade for the 5D :D:D:D

Wonderful Stuff Jim. I wish I had a $14 lens for this weekend's events...

I bet you would! A 5D 19" Dallmeyer with a stuck softener ring! I only wish I got it as cheap as your $14 jewel. Just got through taking a couple more pictures with it. Hope to develop them in the JOBO today. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Really nice portraits

Thanks for sharing these very good portraits. I wish there was a list somewhere of all the inexpensive but great lenses for LF portraiture. It's only with experience that one can know what will work and what won't, and that experience doesn't come cheap.
Thanks
Neal Wilson

Gosh!!! I wish I really did look that good.

Seeing Jim with his camera and lenses in action was a real treat. Sitting for the portrait a little nerve wracking- "DON'T MOVE!!" as the bazooka is aimed at your head!

A great time in Tonopah. Wonderful to meet everyone. Great new friends, and colleagues.

Thanks to everybody, Jim and Per especially!

The images are just great! I am sure sorry I missed it! Again my thanks for posting your results. I did guess correctly on which shots were made with the P&S. But then I had the advantage of using one for several years, they have a particular look. I love it!

Charlie...............................

WOW! I especially like the ones of Jason, Julie, and Lars!

OK, you mentioned in the Beach Multi-Focal thread that the B&L is like the one I bought... You've just motivated me to get it mounted up and in use!

Jim,
Needless to say that I'm so sorry that Bobby was unable to attend this workshop with you all.

Now, after seeing these beautiful images you made during that time, I can say (with my southern drawl, of course) that I'm just pea-green with envy!! You all were so fortunate!!!

Thanks for sharing the work, Jim. As always...inspirational!!

Very nice portraiture, I can see why you like both lenses. Pat

I m so upset I could nt make it up due to last minute unexpected complications.....however, I think the Julie portrait is the best and most striking of all, by far....

What a fantastic host!
Awesome country!
Excellent friends!

I believe the "Frank" portrait is, by far, the best.

Well, that's 2 votes for Frank. Did anybody else get 2 votes??
