There's certainly a zaniness there, Andrew, that appealing.

It was a comedy show back in the early 80's. Some comedic greats got their start on the show such as John Candy, Rick Moranis, Martin Short, Katherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, to name a few.

All of these names apart from John Candy whom I have seen only once in a film, are unknown to me, Andrew. N America is just a small island in the middle of the Atlantic to we Brits 😄

Canadians are not well known with the exception of a few, like John Candy (RIP).

SCTV was, still is amazing.

Andrea Martin is currently playing a character, a nun on the Paramount plus show  Evil, . Her character is a badass nun. I always think of her as Edith Prikley, the station manager. I would tape those shows and watch SCTV and drink beer. Everyone was on that show.

Yeah, it's one of the hazards of being an insular people. So to speak.

You were too busy watching Benny Hill. Although if you say you were watching Dave Allen, then all is forgiven, because he's one of the funniest comedians to come out of anywhere.

Sorry-- If you don't know who Rick Moranis and Martin Short are-- you didn't watch comedy in the 1980's. Speaking of Martin Short, consider Only Murders in the Building, with Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez, now about to drop Season 2. It really shouldn't work, but somehow... it does.

"Yakkity Sax", wasn't it? If you saw the original Ghostbusters you probably remember Rick Moranis as the accountant who turns into a demon dog. He shows up in Ghostbusters: Afterlife too, but just a cameo. Also went into the studio with Geddy Lee to record the hit song "Take Off!" -- remember that, hoser?

Yakety Sax by Boots Randolph (and James Q. "Spider" Rich, which I just now learned).

Fantastic bit of saxophone work. There's a duet between Randolph and Chet Atkins, seeing who could out do the other playing Yakety Sax (or Yakety Axe, as Chet's version was called) on YouTube.

I’ve never understood why when Wendy’s hamburger chain owner Dave Thomas passed away, they didn’t just recut the commercials starring Thomas with SCTV’s Dave Thomas playing the role.

Dave said "take off, eh" when they asked him to take over, cuz they didn't have any Poutine...or beer on the menu, eh.
