Just received my books from the YUP sale. The books were packed well and arrived without any damage. The box did contain a piece of paper from W.W. Norton & Company (the fulfillment house) that said:

How are we doing?

Were the boxes packed with sufficient packaging?

Were any cartons damaged?

Did you get the wrong book?

Did you get the wrong number of the right book?

We want to know how to serve you better. Sending us a picture of what we did wrong is best.

Please tell us by emailing us at:

customerservice@wwnorton.com

I'd certainly reach out to them if any of the books you ordered arrived with damage.

Guys I am talking about a slight, ever so slight, issue. It isn't like the books came thrashed. Lol. It wasn't a big deal. Probably shouldn't have bothered mentioning it since it caused some angst apparently. Apologies.

Us book people take corner bumps very seriously

I have the MoMA Irving Penn by Szarkowski. Is "Centennial" a good companion or different enough to warrant a purchase?

Is it a hardcover book ? looking at the seller's site, the book seems to be bonded by strings of some sort. Please advise. Thanks.

The book uses a Smyth Sewn Binding which is supposed to be very durable yet allows the pages to lay flat when open. The cover is some sort of thick card stock, somewhere between a soft and hardcover.

Been lucky finding interesting stuff on the used market at very reasonable prices. So, new on the shelves:

- Mark Ruwedel: Written on the Land
- Lynne Cohen: Occupied Territory

I picked up "The master Photographer's Lith Printing Course" By Tim Rudman. It was on the auction site with no actual item photo. The book arrived in perfectly acceptable used condition in a plastic envelope only.
It's a companion/jumping off point for a recently acquired ridiculous number of expired papers I scooped up. I guess it's time for me to convert back from woodworking to darkroom in my basement.

Check also Sergio Larrain

Thank you Nikos. I have something from him, a volume about London I think. But you're right, I had meant to buy 'Valparaiso' for ages. Any other recommendations?

Also check out Mario Algaze. Mario was a friend of mine and I actually printed a limited edition series of four of his favorite images in platinum/palladium/gold for him. there are only a couple of books of his photographs but he is considered one of the best for documenting Latin American subject matter. I have several of his prints and books. I also have three of each of the four (signed, dated and numbered) prints I did for him if anyone happens to be interested.

You 're welcome!
There is a retrospective book of Larrain' work too. Valparaiso I think comes with a new edition this year. It is a book hard to find.
Some more Latin American photographers:
Paz Errazuriz, Pedro Luis Raota, Flor Garduno..
If I remember more will write you

I have lots of references to Minor White among my collection, but no titles devoted to him. I picked up a copy of this used.

Wow! Just received my half-priced sale copy of Penn's "Centennial". from Yale. Got to be one of the best photo books ever published and a must for any Penn fan. Suggest anyone thinking of buying should act now. I believe the sale extends to the end of the month.

Artbooksonline.eu has the Allard retrospective only at 15 Euros (original price 60)
I can recommend it as one of the nicest works in color
