The Photobook Thread

Nice. I have 'The Pond' by him, and a Steidl monograph in the same series as the one you have, 'Should Nature Change' - a true great.

'The Pond' is the only Gossage title I have. I've heard good things about 'Looking up Ben James - A Fable' too, but I haven't got around to picking up a copy yet.

Thank you for letting me know about this "Japanese photography Magazines" book. It looks really interesting. I was offered steidl's "Japanese Photo Book" when it came out, I confirm it's a great book. I'm also fond of Japanese photography and their publishing culture. And it's still very lively today. On my last trip there, I discovered a magazine I hadn't heard about yet "sha shin magazine" (easy to remember...) it's published by Fugensha. They have a nice gallery also.

Just ordered Brett Weston's "Baja California" portfolio (Lodima Press) to dip a toe in that set. Given how good their "Edward Weston: Life Work" book is I'm expecting great things.

Don’t be surprised when you find yourself wanting the entire series.

Hi GLS thank you for the recommendation. Did you order directly from the US or is there a distributor in the UK or EU?

This was from a book seller on ebay, in new condition. There are a number of them listed (in the UK at least) if you do a search for "Brett Weston Lodima"

I was scrolling through the Stanley Barker site last night. Things could get expensive. I keep on seeing/hearing about various titles only to have them be out of print (Larry Fink Opening the Sky).

Speaking of Larry Fink, nice little film about him on Nowness.

Their "Photographers in focus" series is pretty good.

The Shipping Forecast by Mark Power

Anybody has a book from his Good Morning, America series? I'm interested, but they ain't cheap...

On the off chance this isn't just a quirk of perspective, I checked the Nazraeli site regarding that book: 14"x17" same as the current "House Hunting."
It is the tallest book I own.

I wondered if this was due to the perspective as well. But later in the video clip he holds the book up square to the camera and, yeah, it's huge.

I have a copy of the Special Edition of Lee Friedlander's America By Car. It is an absolutely huge book and it's only 14 x 15.5. The Todd Hido book beats it.

Books like that are just annoying because almost no book shelf can accommodate them standing up.

My biggest is a Nick Brandt book (also 14 x 15.5"). The prints are lovely though.

Strange. I wonder what that particular copy is then? A concept trial, Super special edition printed just for Todd Hido, something else?

They're not photo books, but other art books; I have a couple by Mark Ryden that are a strange long format and don't shelve easily.

Just received a copy of "Early Sunday Morning" by Peter Mitchell - RRB Photo books Bristol.

Gorgeous little book, beautifully printed too. I will seek more from this publisher.

The only book I have from RRB is Tony Ray-Jones, which I really like. They do have a couple of other books in their catalog that interest me, but I haven't gotten around to ordering any of them yet.

This thread reads like an AA group meeting where everybody has relapsed.
