Are you up for it? I was at the Istanbul Modern and saw the contact sheet show. I'm really inspired to shoot mindfully. I would at least one time in my life shoot 6x6 and shoot a roll with 12 gems then printed on a contact sheet bare and naked without burning and dodging or manipulations.

An interesting concept and video. The challenge (for me) is making each shot be intentional . . . really thinking "Why am I making this image?", "What is it I am attempting to say?", "What is it about this composition that is special for me?" Truth be told, my guess is many of us get sort of close and then pick the ones which work the best.

It's the reason I shoot 4x5, and I can't even get two in a row doing that. But then, if you aren't screwing up, you aren't trying. I suppose I could play it safe and do it.

Too much thinking will kill your photography. As a Buddhist, I hear this mindfulness stuff all the time. It doesn't do much for me. No mind is the way to go. If you're thinking about it, you're doing something very wrong.

If you click your camera's shutter in a forest, and no film was in your camera, did you take a picture?

Koans are good stuff. Not for everyone. The hope is that they break your mind. They should break your mind, because your mind is not broken, but you must first break your mind to achieve not-broken.

This ((short, maybe 10 minutes) link below is as good an explanation of that as one can have. If you think about any of this, you are doomed. If you do not think about any of this, you are still doomed. So what should one do?

In the video, form means outside appearance. Emptiness means there is no inherent meaning or quality that is inherent to anything. All things are seen in relationship in a relative world.

His last words are that you must save all suffering beings. How? Very simple, actually. In just 2 minutes you will fully understand. Or not.

Excellent video! So is the one roll challenge a Koan to break photographers from clinging? Or is shooting one roll is clinging to an idea of mindful shooting?

A somewhat similar challenge is a photo marathon. I praticipated in one last year, 24 images in 24 hours. You get four new themes every four hours. Back in the late 80's/early 90's it was on a 24 exp roll of course, last year digital only (no PP, pics have to be taken in the right order). Kind of easy! This year they are allowing film, nice. I will do my best...

i have no problem with taking only one roll n making it count.

my problem with this project is i can't process my own film. i shoot zone system n half my result is in the soup.

to be at the mercy of machine processing doesn't work for me.

i enjoyed the video, seeing each person's experiance n how they approached their ideas.

thanks for the inspiration.

Nicely done video overall - how did Hassleblad let them show Canon so much?! [emoji12]
I thought they might show more interesting areas of Tokyo - maybe it got edited out.
I would've expected more keepers than ' correctly exposed ' photos from the rolls. Hardly takes much effort even when shooting digital to discipline yourself!

Is it a good idea to say economise on film when makers like Fuji are saying they can't afford to make certain films anymore? [emoji56]
