The Nikon N90s

I wish I had your resolve. Good decision. I don't exactly regret buying all the cameras I have, but I think I would be just as happy with the SRT-101, Olympus XA2, and Yashica T4 Super D that I started with. I could have used the money to buy some nice primes for the 101.

I do love the look and feel of my Konica and Ricoh RF and ZF's, though. They are the only cameras that really draw me to them. I just wish the meters worked in some of them.

Well, if you have a F6, the N90s brings nothing to the table other than a second body. If I was in Southern Cali I would go by and pick it up, maybe trade in my F4, which I have not taken to. I think the N90s will work fine with old Nikon primes.

Ask Nikon why they changed to cheap plastic. And maybe you should ask all those seller w broken F100s and F80s how it happened?
It's a good thing that a member here is making parts to fix it, but I don't want to buy a camera that I may need to futz with like that.

But it's ok, there are plenty of cameras out there that do not have that worry. Like the $50 N90s. Heck, even that cute little EM has metal latches!

I would but I have not had a problem with broken latches.

I've used that one before. But then you start getting backups for your backups, and then maybe want to shoot slides and... It's a trap!

Honestly, if Paul didn't bond with the F4 then an n90 would be a great trade. Get one and sell the F4 on, use what suits you, right?

I grabbed Momus' old 8008 in a fit of nostalgia and it's a joy to shoot. After I ran a few rolls I gave it to a friend to use and I'm betting she never gives it back. The N90 is an even better camera, similarly good handling. If I didn't love my F4 I'd be happy with either of those as my backup autofocus camera.

That era's pro-sumer and consumer nikons are a ridiculous bargain.

Yes, ridiculous bargains which is not good when you have a GAS problem. Didn’t the N90S sell for about $1000 new? Now, $50.

This may be sacrilege but I'm considering selling off the remainder of my manual focus Nikon SLRs, and maybe get the N90s. My F3P is in super sweet non dinged condition, but now that I am so used to focusing with an RF camera, manually focusing SLRs seems much harder to me. Got two Sover-ed F2s and the F3P left.

It still leads me to buying more cameras than I use. "oh, I can put that in the box in case this one dies" reasoning. The first step to not being a hoarder is to admit I have a problem.

There is a difference, I only have one spare for the N75 which is showing signs of wearing out in the next few years. I cannot complain about the N75, it has had a lot of use since I bought new in 2004.

There is a difference, I only have one spare for the N75 which is showing signs of wearing out in the next few years. I cannot complain about the N75, it has had a lot of use since I bought new in 2004.

I’m doing a bit more planning ahead since the N75 is going to attain cult status any minute and become insanely expensive. I’ve have a backup for the backup’s backup. Sadly, I’m not even sure that’s enough.

Finally picked up an N90S.

Not as "like new" condition of the N55, N75, N80, F100 cameras that are out there. But it is 100% functional. No Err messages or issues with the indicator screens.

In terms of handling and construction it seems to sit right between the F100 and N80.

The main reason I got this was mostly out of curiosity. Also, I may pick up some Nikon Ai lenses in the future. The N90s will meter with the non-CPU lenses, provide manual and auto exposure and give focus confirmation.
The n80, n75, n55 cannot do this.

The three Ai lenses I'm considering would be 50/1.2, 35/1.4 and 28/2.

Anyway, I had N90S and carelessly dropped my work backpack about 3 feet, which is sans cushion, with the camera in it. The camera acted li'l bit strange after that but somehow it returned to normal.
My friend had a F100 and also accidentally bumped it on some hard surface. Nothing extreme too but his camera malfunctioned.

I have 3 of them. Great cameras!! I originally bought them for underwater photography (yes in a housing - duh). They were cheap and disposable. Only flooded one as it turned out. The 3 remaining get used all the time. Solid performers!! Great metering too.

I haven't seen a modern Nikon without good metering yet!

In the day the N90 was known for ruggedness, the Army, the Air Force and AP used N90 rather than the F3 or F4.
