Speaking of unboxings, I just received an invitation from Tarmarkin Camera for a wine and cheese reception preceding the start of their latest Leica auction. Do you think you could have a wine and cheese reception for anything other than a Leica? I don't think you could pull it off for any other camera. For most other brands, you would probably just have a taco truck or something.

I guess nothing says Leica like wine and cheese. Also, I am not sure there is a good parking spot for a taco truck at Tamarkin, so it may have been his only option.

I could have bought a Zorki 4k for $20 which is basically the same thing, but like this more.

I’m trying to think when was the last time I used 1/8000 on my F6 or R9. I ‘think’ I may have done it to shoot at 1.4 in direct sunlight for that bokeh effect w/o needing nd filters, but that was more of a novelty thing.
I’m not even sure when was the last time I used 1/2000 on my F3p! Maybe I’m doing it wrong?

I’m wondering what Radost is doing that makes cameras with 1/1000 top speeds inadequate? Maybe he is trying to freeze a balloon popping? Could he be the last professional race car photographer using film?

Everyone secretly or openly prefers cocktail wieners over cheese. The Leica crowd just refuses to serve them at their galas because they just know the endless punchlines that would follow.

Granted I tend to shoot at f8-ish as I don't do the bokeh thing. And with a yellow filter permanently glued to my lenses and my typical rating of B&W film at one stop under box speed, I rarely go above 1/250 - even in the bright California sunshine. So the 1/1000 limit of a Leica film camera is not limiting at all.

Not limiting for you. Or Huss. Or me. That does not translate to everyone, though.

I have lenses that are mostly sharper at f8 (or even lower) than f11. With ISO 400 or 800 film you need to be at f11 or even f16 or carry an ND filter. I find that people who care about sharpness would rather turn the shutter speed dial than use an ND filter. So, it's not just a case of freezing motion and/or low dof.

But, would I choose a film Leica with 1/4000 or 1/8000 if that meant an electronic shutter that is louder and has more shake (I won't mention battery dependancy because we all know Huss loves batteries)? No.

Are you shooting on the beach with your lens wide open for creative effect?

Carrying a neutral density filter is much less exhausting that carrying a second body loaded with slower film. You might want to give that a try and see if it works out for you.

So weird because I was shooting my M7 w/ Kentmere 400 rated at ISO 1600 in bright sunlight. At ISO 1600.

Now if you want to use your cameras wide open, you can do that by using an ND filter. Those things work no matter what film you use. It just screws onto the front of your lens, or you can complain and act like there is no rational and cheap solution.
I have an Nikon F6 w the 1/8000 speed. And yet I managed to figure out how to use an ND filter on my Leicas. Your next argument? Don't want to carry an ND filter? Well, that's on you.
Kinda takes the wind out of your sales complaining about the new M6, eh?
