Although I am a Tapatalk user, I can understand your decision since they were behaving badly. Gives me pause to wonder if I want to keep using it anywhere.

In the meantime I am enjoying the new look and the site is smooth and responsive on my iOS tablet. Thanks for all your hard work. It must have made for a hectic weekend.

Ugh. I kept checking all day to see if the site was back up - via Tapatalk. Finally checked tonight on the PC.

This is...well just "ugh." I can understand it from your point of view. And in fact I have steadfastly refused to update my Tapatalk as I hate the later versions. But probably more than 50% of my forum activity is via my phone via Tapatalk, and I hate, HATE, HATE using forums via the browser in the phone, to the point I pretty much won't bother.

So this is likely to cut my usage of the site roughly in half, at a guess.

Thanks for running a great site. I was already half inclined to subscribe, then I saw you had disabled Tapatalk and I was sold!
Intrusive nagware on so many forums that adds no value.

Huh?

Must be something they added in later versions of Tapatalk. I have never, ever, seen anything of the sort and I have been using Tapatalk for years on multiple forums. But I am still on v3.1.1. After that it started to really suck. I deleted it from my phone, restored my phone from backup and never updated it again. I understand it's improved some from the craptastic version that followed 3.1.1 but not enough.

Hi Roger, hang in there I am actively investigating a mobile solution and hope to have something in the next few days.

That would be awesome! Thanks Sean! I don't mind using a different app for APUG from the one I use for my pilot forums and LFPF, I just don't like it in Safari. Everything is too small and it takes lots of pinch zooming and horizontal scrolling and is just generally a PITA in my view. Though some folks on one of the pilot forums say they prefer the browser to Tapatalk so there you go - as always YMMV.

BTW, this may be upthread too but there's a lot to read - when I replied in a thread it used to subscribe me and it would show those I had posted in. I don't see that now. Is it just missing or something I turn on in my settings?

Hi, on your control panel preferences page, select your default notification options: That area is here: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Also, in submenu above look for "Your Posts" that might be what you need?

Sean:

Cool update!! A job well done. I worked in chemistry most of my career, so I have little idea of how monumental an effort it was to update APUG. I am impressed, and glad, that all went as smoothly as expected. It is nice to have APUG back, I was close to going into withdrawal.

It will take a little while to get familiar with all the new formats, but overall I like your update. Thanks.

Regards,
Darwin

Hum, I tried checking "Automatically watch threads that you create or when you reply." which sounds like exactly it, but didn't seem to change anything. Yes I saved changes. But it may only work with replies added after I changed the setting. Not a big thing by any means.

I also hit a snag in the profile because location is limited to 12 characters. That's very limiting. I didn't want to put the exact suburb but used to say "northeast suburbs of Atlanta." Won't fit now. Nor well "NE Suburbs of Atlanta" nor "NE of Atlanta" nor "Atlanta metro" etc. so I settled on "Atlanta" even though I don't actually live there. In fact, the actual name of the suburb I live in won't even fit by itself since it's 13 characters long.

Again not a big thing but it's going to be harder to get an idea where some people are because they may have to be a lot more general.

And yeah, I think now checking that started showing which threads I've replied in, for threads where I reply after making the change, like this one. Looks odd just showing my userpic over the main one of the thread starter (versus the little green dot before) but again, not a big thing at all.

Good to see APUG back. Thanks a lot, Sean and others who are helping behind the screen.

Bookmark related (bug): As you said before, previous bookmarks don't work. Some of them were not standard bookmarks as I had to manually tried to create them - perhaps they were readily but I couldn't find under the previous system. For instance, I have some (c.f. 2 examples below) which used to take me straight to one specific post whilst keeping every others of the same thread under the same window.
(1) (there was a url link here which no longer exists)
(2) (there was a url link here which no longer exists)
Now they prompt me to provide username and password (possibly admin thingy).

Number of posts (feature request): In the previous system I could choose the number of posts per window. If possible, please add that as well.

Search option in the control Panel (feature request): Please add a search option within Control Panel - something similar to Google Chrome's Settings. Finding any specific option then becomes lot easier.

Bests,
Ashfaque

Congrats on getting a massive conversion up and running! Well done!

Hi All,

......
The cost of this major upgrade was more than expected, so anyone that missed out on our initial fundraiser and would like to chip in, please head to our (there was a url link here which no longer exists). All those members and businesses who have donated will also be on a permanent thank you page soon (linked in our site footer)........

I tried to donate but PayPal does not like your email address:

PHOTOCENTRICLTD@GMAIL.COM

Any idea why? I converted it to lower case but it still wanted a 'valid' email address.

That's odd, it's been working fine today. Just logged into my account now:

I guess you can wait a while and try again, maybe they have issues at the moment. Thanks!

It would be fine if at a "My Posts" (change "your" to "my"...) a listing would appear similar to "Todays Posts" indicating any thread that has an unread post.

I mean a listing similar to the old system's "My Posts". Now we got a listing similar to "latest posts of member" in the old system.

Also at "My Posts" the forum tool-bar is lacking. One has to click "Forum" again to get acess to other searches again

I find these red markings irritating and needless.

Except for the Inbox! (In the old system I experienced that newbies typically did not react on PMs as likely when the pop-up was not working, they had no idea that they got a PM. The new indicator is benefitial here.)

Would a "edited" mark be useful?

In the past I sometimes refrained from correcting spelling or wording, as then that automated edited-marking showed up drawing more attention than necessary in a one-line post.
But when doing a major content change or adding important information such mark may be useful. (Well, one could do a follow up posting.)

Maybe as a choosable icon at the text-field toolbar, one may set deliberately?

The bookmarks are very very very important. I have hundreds of them. It's like a personalized knowledge archive...

But i have to say also: congratulations for the new apug!

Bringing in a 3rd party expert in redirects, we should have this resolved in a day or two where all old links redirect to the new links.

On every other Xen-powered forum i've used, the performance has been abysmal to the point of being unusable on my cranky old Opera 12/Linux puters ... not on APUG though, it all seems about as "quick" as it ever was, so something you and your coders have done between you makes it better than "out of the box".
(the editor is still unusable in rich text mode but that's an Opera problem and will go away as soon as Vivaldi have a version that I can get working on Linux)

So that offsets the loss of tapatalk a bit (Roger Cole, IFYP)

Look to the left of the page numbers and you will see something like "Page 5 of 5".

I agree though that it would be nice to have the old bolded page number as well.

Oh, so there is!! Didn't see that when I posted, although I'm sure I now remember it being around previously.

ah right i see it, yes i can fix that

Wonderful!! Easy to see now most definitely, Sean. Thanks.
