I think it would only appear in the javascript console when you have the developer tools switched on. If it happens and then you switch on developer tools then I don't think you'll see it there. So before you do whatever you're going to do to test it, switch on developer tools (F12 in IE11).

Ok here's a disturbing feature. Several times I've typed a reply in the quick reply box only to decide not to post it. I close the window and/or mark all read, go away, come back later...as in days later, and post a reply, not noticing that my previous unposted reply had been saved all that time! So when I post my new reply, the old, discarded reply gets posted along with it. Fortunately I noticed and deleted it whenever this has happened I hope.

Is there a way to make this save feature less effective?

I've done that... the deleted text returns. You must delete the old text again before posting new text.

Long enough to realize that we were so stupid that we forgot to send before leaving the page. A week to ten days

That's not a satisfactory solution. I shouldn't have to delete something I never posted and never intended to post. If I close the page and leave, it should leave too.

Can it be set to delete when you leave the page? I think that's the best indicator you don't want to see it again. I might leave a page open for a long time working on a long or complicated reply, so time isn't necessarily the best measure. I've never had text remain after leaving a page in any other forum I've ever been on.

there's a button on editor 3rd from right of left block which says save or delete draft. So if you change your mind you should just use the delete daft button before exiting the page I think. Might be better if the default was to delete draft rather than save it though.
If you never intended to post it you shouldn't have written it. The editor doesn't know you were having a brain fart.

One wonderful thing about the written word is it gives us more time to ponder whether the post is worth saving or if it's even appropriate. Blurted out spoken words cannot be deleted.

I hinted at this already some time ago. As you too experienced. it still happens. At first encounter it is very confusing especially as in my case one cannot link that text to anything one has written oneself (part of a quotation).

I shall try the manual wipe-out function next time. May be that will be a cure.

Pleas NO. I sometimes accidentally hit the wrong button [BACK] thus leaving to return to the previous page without saving the content. In this case I would also accidentally delete my concept text before posting it. So if (in that case) I would then click [FORWARD] I'll be happy to see my written concept text again - let's say by clicking within 10 minutes? Otherwise don't bother saving it for later.

BTW: When I write a lengthily comment I often use [CMD-A] + [CMD-C] automatically before hitting the [POST REPLY] - just to be save.
(When using Windows, that would be [CTRL-A] + [CTRL-C], naturally).

I've now set the stored draft to wipe after 1hr. That seems about the right amount of time to save people from losing text on a browser crash, brief site outage, closing the browser by accident etc.

I agree with saving it when accidentally going forward/back. That feature is useful. Its when I close the page/tab completely that I'd like to never see it again. But hopefully the 1 hour limit will work out

well, it must be a code error somewhere but I have yet to see it. Are you able to reproduce it over and over or is it random? If a series of steps can bring up the error for me that would help.

Just got it again. This time I got the console error as follows:

We run a database backup at that time, usually take 3 minutes and hangs the site. I'm trying to set up a system that puts up a maintenance page while this happens.

It was shortened after the upgrade then the limit removed. Anyone with a location not showing fully would need to re-enter the name.

Another question - something for the wish list.

Is it possible to mark a single post in a (long) thread for personal archiving/reading later? Give this post (not the thread) a "READ LATER" mark or something?
Sometimes I read an interesting post in a thread about how someone developed X in Z or made A possible with B.
These are single posts I would like to (re-)find on a later date. But at that time I don't know anymore what thread it was - or it's a veeery long thread to go through - or who posted it. And the search option often doesn't help for it gives too many answers.

For example, like Mirko's comment on Rodinal mentioned in my previous post. I didn't know when and where Mirko posted it and it was a long search. Luckily I remembered Mirko's name, otherwise I wouldn't have found it. I now searched for "Mirko Adox Rodinal Adonal" and got lucky.

This is a great option to keep track of all the good individual posts (not threads) I've read over the years but couldn't find it anymore. The "note to self" feature is also great!

Not bickering, just wondering...
In the old system posts by ignored members were replaced by placeholders. In the new system they vanish completely what might lead to puzzling situations when one does not realize what another post is referring too.
Well, once one realized that new vanishing-feature one can go to the end of the page and there is a button to make ignored posts visible again, if needed.

I ignored someone and the next thread I read, there was a placeholder to click to read the ignored content. Is there a setting to control how this works?
