That's not what I said at all. Placement is about exposure, not development.

Whether one chooses to "place" the shadows, or whatever else one would consider an "important value" depends on the visualization.

Joe: I understand. I just meant that while placement is about exposure, development is about modifying contrast. If for whatever reason I am not able to "move" values via development, then I place a key value where I want it to end up via N development.
