I once heard someone say a photographer is only as good as their model and someone else say a photographer is only as good as their interpretation of the model. When I see a model as photogenic as the following it makes me wonder who is correct.

Any photo with this model would look good unless it were poorly focused or the set was very badly lit.

It depends on whether the viewer is more interested in the photograph or in the model. Not all of Edward Weston, Yousuf Karsh, or Ruth Bernhard's models were beautiful, but to many of us their photographs usually were. Mediocre photos of beautiful women have their following, too.

I'm living proof that it is possible to shoot mediocre pictures of very beautiful women, you still have to have the lighting, exposure and facial expression right.

hi benjiboy
i understand what you are saying but in the end a bad photograph of a beautiful model is still a photograph of a beautifulmodel
even if it is a bad photograph. look at the countless of attempts ( failed?) at amateur photographers ( and professionals alike )
to make nude/figure studies of female models. even the worst attempts, at failed figure studies and sort c0re porn still get looked at
they still get "great photograph"comments, posters bought, books published images downloaded
.. because it is a beautiful woman, not because of the failed photography

The recent Daily Mail photo of her doesn't do her justice - she is caught scowling (probably at a paparazzo) and her attire isn't flattering, either.

I'm sure an attractive photo of her could be made today.

I'm sure you're right Theo my wife is the same age as Jean Shrimpton, was never as as beautiful as she but still looks pretty good when she gets her makeup and gladrags on

I'm usually more interested in exceptional photographs of unexceptional subjects, than in unexceptional photographs of exceptional subjects.
