The Holga: Instagram's godfather?

Hello all

I published something on my photoblog recently about the Holga, after the new production has stopped...

I'd always thought that the Lomo LC-A was a pioneer of the kind of look many Instagram photographers aspired to, but the Holga actually seems to be a more accurate comparison, especially thanks to the limitations of smartphone screens as few years back - your pics were square or nothing.

It will be intertesting to see if the Diana follows suit, though evry time I go into the Lomography store in London there seems to be new limited-editions,a dn i see a lot of them being used.

Instagram emulates the look of Polaroid instant film photographs.

Lomography was initiated with Lomo LC-A. Holga, Diana are also lomography cameras.
Instagram, to my limited knowledge, is dumpster for iPhone pics taken by specific application. At least this is how it was started. Now it just another Facebook crapload. IMO.

I'm in favor of the Holga and Diana and the Lubitel cameras and cross-processed film with random light-leak artifacts, though I prefer a Brownie Hawkeye or an Agfa Clack for such silliness. I don't comprehend Instagram though.

holga is not a lomography camera ( made by the lomographic society in vienna ), unless you are talking "style" ( simple camera )
LOMO cameras are from st petersburg russia, holgas were made in china ( no clue about dianas )
i don't go ( have never been ) to instagram so i don't know if it is a dumpster, unless flickr and ipernety is also a dumpsters ...

Thanks for the nice article, just one small thing is bothering me the whole Lomography thing. Neither Holga nor the original Diana had anything to do with the Lomographic Society. The original Toy camera as fine art tool users started in the late 1960’s with the Diana and the Holga followed in the 1980’s. The Lomography cameras except for the LC-A never really had the same status as fine art tools as the original Diana and Holga. Even the LC-A is not in the same class as the Holga.

Never used instagram but is seems to have a rather large following.

I stopped using Instagram, there are just too many fake user who try to like your photo. Too fake for my taste.
