Had a prezzie in the post this morning, a Kershaw 8-20 penguin folder, £5 from the auction site (inc p and p:tongue: ) Spent the morning pretending to my wife I knew what I was doing (at £5 I reckon I can screw this up and not worry too much) cleaned gunk from shutter, cleaned grease and accumulated muck from lens then put a roll of out of date agfa RSX into it (had to get the wind on knob to free itself first !) and hey presto I'm taking photos.

Now I have NO idea how the slides will turn out but I am looking forward to looking at a 6x9 whatever it's of . The main point is that for less than £15 including film , camera, processing I have had loads of fun, Imagine doing this in 50 years time with a Canon 350D :D

Sorry to have taken your time; Chris

Glad to hear that you are ejoying the experiance Chris, great fun are folders. I afraid that my imagination has failed me regarding the 350D, but I shall keep working on it.

The photographer 'Baron' - who was once as much a household name as Bailey later became (and, lamentably, Testino seems to be now) - started out with a Kershaw King Penguin.

(Little known useless photographic fact of the day No. 27.)

Old folding cameras are a lt of fun to use. I have lots of them. Slide film is an excellent way to find out how accurate the shutter is. It's a lot cheaper to process than color negative film, too. Have fun with your new camera. I'll lay odds that you'll want another. And another......

while, glad you enjoy it. I got a Isolette I really cheap and try to solve some problems by my self...the end result is a desk full of tiny screws and shutter blades I don't know how to put it back together and a damaged front lens cell.

But I had a lot fun:smile:

Hehe! I do this all the time... to the point that if I mention I'm looking at another camera on fleabay or elsewhere, my friends now ask... how many cameras do you have??? Which reminds me, whenever I give that count, I don't count the cameras I apparently have been given recently by my relatives... I should have an old folder to look forward to breaking myself (yay!) but I'm in the wrong country to pick it up and poke it
