Hi Per:

Is there an itinerary for the workshop yet? Personally, I've seen Bodie enough. I am bringing a Jeep 4WD and I may opt for exploring some backroads around Bodie while others shoot the town.

Any other places on the list?

Will there be print viewings? Do participants brings prints to show the group or do just you show prints?

Thanks.

Last year we started out in Bodie, some showed prints back at the campground, and Per showed a video on the history of Bodie in relation to his Danish Immigrant project. Some folks went off to June and Mono lakes to shoot, some stayed and explored Bodie. Essentially you can shoot wherever you want. At the end of the day we'd sometimes gather for a joint dinner at the campground cafe.

After Bodie we traveled down to Mammoth area and just south of there is Convict Lake, then on down to Bishop and Lone Pine

Anyone can bring prints for show or critique. Per can elaborate on this years gathering and he might have a surprise or two up his sleeve

THE OWENS VALLEY / EASTERN SIERRA FREE WORKSHOP IN OCTOBER

I just sent email to everyone who expressed an interest in participating - so far 65 people. Usually we see a drop off of about 30%. This still means that this will be a major workshop.

If you have sent an email in the past about this workshop let me know if you have NOT received the update that went out today.

If you want to get on the waiting list please email me ASAP. Be sure to write OWENS VALLEY 2006 in the email header.

Thanks!

The Eastern Sierra Workshop is less than a month away!

The leaves have started to turn, the cool winds of fall are sweeping though the high mountain passes. The Eastern Sierra is poised for yet another fall spectacular ...

Tonight I emailed everyone on the list. If you wanted to participate but did not get this email please contact me ASAP!

We will have a good size workshop this year with participants coming from all over the country. And from Canada!

Just got back from a Road Trip today. Headed down to Bishop back up through Benton back over to 120 . Yellow Aspens everywhere, still quite a few green.

Very pretty.

21 confirmed so far...

We do have space for a couple more. if you are interested in participating in this year's FREE Eastern Sierra Workshop please email me ASAP - in your email header please state YES! EASTERN SIERRA!

We will have a great time exploring some of the most incredible places in the Eastern Sierras / in California.

Demonstrations / presentations about exposure at high altitude - marketing your work - platinum printing (weather permitting) - pre-exposure for contrast control - looking at prints and analyzing content - as well as drooling over equipment = everything from 8x10 Ebony cameras to Holgas etc...

- And if you would like to shoot a couple of 8x10 sheets of film and don't have a camera - just bring a holder or two, loaded with your preferred 8x10 film. Ebony - Japan - has loaned us an 8X10 Ebony camera for us to use for demonstration purposes during these workshops! Also, Rob Skeoch from Big Camera Workshops in Toronto will be bringing equipment (Ebony and Canham cameras as well as Berlebach tripods...)...

It looks like we will hit fall colors at full blast... and if the weather will be similar to past years workshops it will be spectacular!

There will be plenty of 8x10 film at the workshop...

And also Harrison changing bags...

Bring your holders!

As you know we just rented a very large cabin for one night = mid week - a cabin that sleeps 34 people, comes complete with a large kitchen, living room w. fire place, several bathrooms, only a few mins. walk from a shooting location.
This cabin also has room(s) that can be turned into film loading area(s).

Temperatures...

In the high elevations (Bridgeport - Bodie) - around 8300 feet:
Daytime = around 59 (could dip 10 degrees or more if clouds "fly" over)
Nighttime = around 26

Moneo Lake area - around 6800 feet:
Daytime = around 65
Nighttime = around 26

Mid - elevations (around Mammoth Hot Creek) - around 6100 feet:
Daytime = around 65
Nighttime = around 30

Lower elevations (Lone Pine area) - around 3700 feet:
Daytime = around 74
Nighttime = around 43
(Whitney Portal quite a lot cooler)

Bring gloves, hat, hand-lotion, sunscreen!
AND WATER!!! Dehydration at high altitude is no fun...!
AND the weather will most likely be very dry!
(Hand-lotion works wonders in preventing chapped and cracked skin on fingers. Cracked skin happens easily on thumbs in high, dry and cool/cold areas when operating metal knobs on large format cameras.)

I'll have 2 8X10's so bring those holders, or use mine for some 810 shots. I also plan to bring a couple of lenses that are on the short list (doubles of what I already have) 4 sale. Cooke triple convertible, 165 WA Dagor, that sort of stuff. I'm up in Reno this eve. and would say the leaves up here are peaked! Gorgeous. Have they invented cameras that make color pictures?

It is obvious...

...that our workshops bring out the highest levels of photographic professionalism in the participants!

Even when trying to relax in a hot tub the camera must be in use - for that elusive image hiding above...
