The death of Nikon 35TI ???

My beloved nikon 35TI has stopped working. The shutter does not trip. everything else works, but the shutter does not fire and the film does not advance.
With high hopes i sent it in to Nikon USA in NY. They accepted it and estimated the repair at 200$. i figured i could probably buy one for not so much more then that, but i love that camera and approved the repair cost.
A day later, the camera was back in my hands with a note from nikon, apologizing, as they claim that "parts no longer available" and they did not repair the camera or charge me anything.
Darn i say!!!

Any one has any idea where or who might be more willing to fix my little magical nikon?

Disclaimer, this is my second Nikon 35TI, the first was lost to a sticky finger thief in Bondi beach Australia. the real shame was that when it was stolen the camera had a roll of film loaded that was 90% shot..... oh well.. that was 6 years ago and i am still whining about it.

You could try Essex Camera. Problem is that it went out of production in '98-99. Nikon won't be carrying parts unless random bits are hanging around--and it sounds like they aren't. Nikon.ca generously tore up the bill on the thorough refurb of a pretty F3 in 2006 when they couldn't replace the circuit board that controls the contrast on the meter LCD--still more than readable but something I wanted fixed.

On ebay they go for 200-300 USD (search completed auctions). You could keep the defunct one for parts.

Depending on which part is broken, an experienced camera repairer may be able to fix something up for you from existing or donor parts. Nikon US are more likely to see a dead shutter, look on the shelves, see no replacement part and declare it void. A local guy may be happy to put the time in to fix rather than replace, which will be beyond Nikon's remit. Of course it will depend on exactly what's wrong with the camera.
