Jim

The following Wed we will be having the Gala which I am sure will be of great fun and inspiration to all who do this workshop and are teaching.
Would be great for you to join us.

Bob
I have to be in Toronto the next week. It wouldn't be impossible for me to shift a week of vacation and fly into Ottawa first. Interesting. Interesting.

Thanks Daniel

I will be in touch, Laura and I will be up there lots in the summer and in June Les McLean and I will be scouting locations so I will put some thought to your PM and put together a wish list of possible location settings.
Our goal is not to have anyone driving randomly during this event but we plan to have large vans to shuttle people Morning and Afternoon to the locations.
As well we have boats to use to get to spots not accesable to vehicles.
This may be where you can be very helpful.
Valerie and Shaun are going to help locate spots , but to have a Large Format Photographer local , would be of great help.

Bob

Jim

I would be careful with this offer, unless you are wearing a parachute for the trip from Ottawa.. Brian has major lead footitest.

Jim;
Do join the troop, it will be a gas. And perhaps you can feed your GAS. And if you pay for gas, I'll even pick you up at the airport.

Hi Folks

Just an update

Our numbers right now are at 25% of spots available.
Those who have signed up should contact Valerie and Shaun as the first location is filling up.
Our next housing location to fill up has been scouted* laura and I stayed there last night and its very clean and efficient.*

We have updated the website with a bit more information. www.elevatorworkshops.com

We will be doing a very large push marketing wise in conjunction with the Toronto Contact Festival in May as well we will be flooding the camera stores and photoclubs in Ont, Man, Quebec, New York , Michigan ect. next month.

We have confirmed help with the Snap Committie for our gala event and they will help us on the evening with display panels auctioneers and basically their expertise in running world class single evening events.

We are considering an online auction of all the participants work with all net proceeds going back to the attending students. This will be in conjunction with the Gala auction with all the net proceeds being directed to Snap.

We will be sending out question/ topic requests to all the students at the end of May.. The idea is to have revelent topics for discussions that each and every Instructor will be discuss mid day during the technical portion of this workshop.

anyways just got back from the area and our hosts are planning quite a few choice locations for us and I am really looking forward to meeting you all.

i'm in

I finally bit the bullet and paid the deposit. I will scratch the money up for the rest as time goes on. The event looks too good to miss, and I would really be kicking myself if it filled up before I stopped dithering.

My kids, 5 and 8 now, are now big enough to get themselves up and dressed most mornings with only verbal prodding from their parents. So I can in good conscience dump them on my wife to get them to school and daycare in the three morning s that I will be out of town on this jaunt. Plus it is a bit of pay back for the three weekdays in July when she is off on a 5 day girlfiends sojourn to Manhattan for theatre and shopping.

So far I am leaning on the camping option for accomodation. I get most of my best landscape/nature type shots as a side effect of camping with the family, and don't want to 'go soft' with the cabin. If I get hooked on the comfy cabins, then I may never get the oumph to again wake up in the tent beside the canoe in the comparative middle of nowhere to my usualy suburban existance.

Oh - jam interest again

I was just starting to plan a menu for this workshop.

It wont be as tough as when I have to carry it all in the packs on my back at a portage, or lay out the meal on the most convenient rock or the top of the overturned canoe.

Just open the car trunk and lay out the meal on a picnic table. What luxury. I was going to bring a bunch of meals pre-made and canned in jars, such as chili, spagetti sauce and roast beef, all of which presently are lying in the cold cellar along with likely over 100 jars of different jams that I typically fob at pre-Christmas craft shows in part fo fund this mad hobby called photography.

I can certainly bring a case of jam along to tempt the crowd with. I presume you are talking about the inferno wine jelly and balsamic red pepper jelly. I think that is what I brought to the last barbeque I got down to at your lab last year.

My mother used to make a variety of pepper jams (from sweet to hot) that rocked.

Our esteemed Mr Callow is producing a pdf document for flyers and email forwarding to different groups.
If there are people that are located within 12 hrs drive from Ontario willing to spread the news and distribute flyers in their area, I would be very grateful.
We are making 3000 to start for the Toronto area that will be distributed in conjuntion with the Festival of Photography*Contact* and would happily ship flyers or forward the pdf to you.
I am hoping to have Henrys and Vistek on board to allow us to put the flyers in all their locations.

We have seen people travel long distances to attend some of our workshops and the lineup for this October Workshop is outstanding and well worth the trip. The Irish are coming in 2009 and we all want to make this an outstanding experience that will continue for years to come.**APUG Conference 2009>> Sean are you listening<<

potential spots .... camera stores, camera clubs, art associations, photo schools, internet forums, gallerys, basically any orginization that will spread the word for us.

thanks in advance for any help

Bob - I have a very good relationship with Downtown Camera. They may allow flyers there. I can ask them.

It's not me Jerry that should be concerned about. John Scott (the banana), apparently has his own "gimp" suit!

Bob;
If you want to send some brochures up to Sudbury, I will get them out to the camera shops in town; although with the most recent comments in this thread, I am not sure that I will be referring anyone to get the details here. "Raincoats and no clothes" are starting to weird me out a bit. I will have to warn Vickie.
