About time, I do agree that it's overdue.

With Edward Enniful as the new Editor in Chief of British Vogue, things are slowly improving in the fashion industry (finally!).

I also really like the work of Campbell Addy who has been recently getting the recognition he deserves

While I celebrate the advancement from obscurity of black photographers it's also sad we find it special. Good photography is good photography.

everyone else seems to have overlooked that the photographer says "its a chance to make it extra black" and the first thought that comes to mind, and the final product, is a poorly themed remake of a photograph from 1863.

The elevation of the photographers race makes the whole situation pretty damned laughable.. If it had been about the skills of the person being on the cover, or the skills of the photographer, it MIGHT be worth a mention. But as it is, being black doesnt make a humdrum photograph in a style that truly was a rote portrait pose from the 1970-1990 magazine photo era..... does absolutely shit

Agreed. I feel that the amount of first black this, first woman that, first asian this, is doing exactly the opposite of their agendas goal. If there is to be equality across the racial and gender divides then it should be about the work done, and not the skin color and genitals of the person doing said work.

Most of what we see is window dressing on the issue here in the US. True progress is blocked at every turn. I was told the other day that "there's always a job for someone who really wants one." By a guy who's cheating on his exams at college. His ignorance is only surpassed by his arrogance. Unfortunately he's far from unique. We've a long ways to go and it's uphill all the way. Climate change, politics, race relations, ect. are all secondary until we learn to share this rock. Seems we don't want to get along. Sad.

There is no interest in solving the problem. Martin Luther King solved the problem "get a job and do it". Sidney Poitier in the film "look whos coming to dinner" summed the whole concept of race relations in this line to his charecters father

"When you look in the mirror you see a black man. When I look in the mirror I see a man"

Because companies and organizations and institutions want to score social credit points with the far left. Because it is a nice distraction from putting effort in actual change.

It seems the trend for some years has been that all jobs/hobbies/institutions need to have an % quota of race and gender (Or agender) X Y and Z.

Apparently disparities are racist. I think these disparities are just a result of different cultures, upbringings and how the female mind has different strengths and values than the male and are biologically different. (Can I still say that?

Companies want to score points with the real world. You should get out of your cave every decade or two.

Spoken with the aggression and confidence of a person with no clue as to what has really been going on in the real world...

MOST people forget that the equal employment crap happened to start in the city of Chicago in the 1970's/1980's when a large number of male and female phillipino/peurto rican people wanted to become police/fire department staff. They did NOT meet height/weight or even physical ability tests. And they sued the city of Chicago under discrimination laws. The city didnt want to spend money so they just changed the requirements.

Nothing like being stuck in a burning vehicle and having to depend upon a 5'4" 120lb person who cant even move their own weight.

The so called disaparities are actually an imaginary construct based upon political leanings of the left. If you go into an industry, let us say photographers or architects. On a regional basis the racial/ethnic membership is identical to the regional/country they are in. As a result, disparity is merely in your head.

Although one a case by case methodology of looking at the actual work output, with no idea of race or gender or ethnics, the output of the non white people doesnt always match up with what an elevated status should have.

IE if someone does photo work for fashion magazines, and they are promoted above others based upon a racial or gender basis, instead of upon a SKILL based decision, the work output has a tendency to be more along the lines of a JC Penney catalog instead of what someone would consider acceptable quality for Vogue magazine. Even though I wouldnt consider fashion magazines to be much in the quality department
