Is there anyone in the US who repairs these. Is it a common problem and just a spring that breaks, or has the battleship sunk. The glass is beautiful

Oil on the blades is a common issue. Go for a qualified repair shop. Inproper opening of the rear side of the lens may destroy the adjustment.
In Germany, Foto Olbrich in Goerlitz is qualified, but 6 months repair time. In the U.S. I don't know.

I'd ask ARAX in Ukraine. They have done good work for me in the past. And in the end a bit of money goes to Ukraine; which I don't mind.
