It's been my experience that "hipster" was a pejorative. I found it odd that people were referring to themselves as hipsters - it's equivalent to referring to yourself as numbnuts.

It is now. It wasn't when hipsters were hip.

Hipsters were hip until they started calling themselves hipsters. So, right up until about 5 minutes after Ginsberg finished reading Howl at Six Gallery.

Does anyone actually use an Alpa? I thought they were just investment vehicles.

We had a customer who used one. Not sure of the age, but it was a very nice camera and produced really nice images. Certainly not the costly camera it now is, though. I think they are great but not many multiples of thousands great.

Did I miss an entire Leica argument? You know how much I love Leica.

I would rather see Leica reduce the price of its expensive cameras than make an inexpensive camera. Although it is not a perfect metaphor, it is like wanting Range Rover to make an inexpensive Range Rover. They could make an inexpensive Range Rover, but it would be a like a Hyundai, except more expensive than a Hyundai, and you wouldn't want it.

The inexpensive Range Rover is a Land Rover, but I can't afford either.

Leica Rumors now say a new Leica film camera will be announced in October 2022, and it is already being tested in field.

I'm saying, if this is true, it is a new Leica Fuji SOFORT.

Can't afford a Land Rover? Get a Montero -- it's better anyway.

Vintage Cars, Part of the Pandemic Hobby Boom, Priced Collectors Out
Buyers have been turning to cheaper substitutes and finding, to their surprise, that some are the equal of the more established collectible.

FWIW, in the past Leica has worked with Minolta for film cameras and Panasonic for digital. Fuji seems to be aligned with Hasselblad.

Don't forget about the Leica Instax camera.

Here are several affordable Leica models:

Minolta XE-7
Minolta XE-1
Minolta XE
Minolta XE-5
Minolta XEb
Minolta XD-11
Minolta XD-7
Minolta XD

On the assumption that the Leitz and Minolta cameras are the same.

Exactly, that is what the SOFORT is/was. So the only affordable (or new) film camera from Leica that makes sense is a new version of that.

I'd forgotten what that was called. With all the bizarre Leica codewords, I assumed you mean some kind of reflex-motor-drive-enlarging-lens-extension-goggle-barn-door-hood-light-meter.....

When I first heard the name I thought it was made by Ikea.

I bought my Leica M4 and wife’s M5 cameras new when they were introduced. Always felt comfortable using them and never considered changing. When M6 was introduced I was having a serious bad problem with vision, and felt that M6 viewfinder fell short compared with M3, 4, or 5. Also, not a fan of diodes. Amortization over 50+ years is not a bad deal. But as I read many threads on APUG, I sense that many have spent a bundle searching for that wonderful budget camera.
I bought my Hassy 2000FCM new around 1981-82. Even as I reluctantly await its destined unrepairable demise, over 40 years use is not a bad deal. Better than jumping from one MF SLR to another hoping to save a few dollars. And with 2000, able to use many Zeiss, Nikon, and Leitz lenses that I already owned. (The Zeiss Olympic Sonnars and Nikon clone also build strong muscles.)

"SOFORT" simply means "instant" or "instantly" in German. That is all.
