I thought these things were setting records when they were going for half the price a couple of weeks ago. Won't they be surprised when they find out the lens wasn't included! I suppose the fact that it accepts both English and metric lenses may have something to do with it...

The seller said it was worth its weight in gold. Apparently he was right.

Obviously a case of supply and demand - I have one of these, combined with a pneumatic Day shutter. It cost only £30 several years ago, but it's very useful and I've never seen another one for sale!

Ye gods!

My most expensive one of those cost all of $150, and had a 5x7" plate camera attached to it. Then that camera was too nice to "butcher" for the iris, so I bought another iris. And another. And by coincidence two more.

Yes they're nice. But not $400 nice!

I don't get it. I bet I can swap lenses faster with every lens having it's own board. Those things make me think of dusty gizmos that nobody would bother to invent if they weren't already around.

Wow, I also have three of them, and find them very useful for lens testing.
I have one on a board for each camera, 4x5, 5x7, 8x10. I agree that changing lenses mounted on their own board might be faster. I have not had mine very long, but I sure did not spend $400 bucks on all three of them.

In most cases that's true.

but with very old lenses without mounting flanges, and threads which haven't been used for 80 years, an iris mount is the easiest way to get a lens mounted. And if you should happen to have 50 or more lenses, and cameras with five different film sizes and five different lens boards, having five iris mounts makes life easier.

Alas, I sold one of these a few years ago, which was a big mistake as I wish I had it now. I did see one of these go for 11 Euro (!!) about a month ago on the european site, unfortunately the seller wouldnt sell to the US! I've given up even watching these on e-bay in the US, the prices are crazy.

cheers

If eBay prices keep going in that direction, even I might be worth something one of these days.
