For a super conference, I had a ball, I learned a lot and I really enjoyed meeting fellow APUGer's from all over the world.

Bill Smith

I would like to second that thought. It was truly a great experience meeting all of you APUGgers. Many thanks to Bob, John, Kevin, and Michelle, the sponsors (J&C and Ilford in particular) and all of those volunteers who kept the engines running smoothly.

I hope to see all of you again next year (except Callow and Gr82bart).

Cheers!

Those guys deserve a lot of recognition for what they managed to accomplish this week. As do the dozens of volunteers who helped out! Thanks folks!

Well, I wasn't there but even I can see it was a Herculean task to organise such an event and congratulations and thanks are due from us all - even those of us who could only stand and watch...

Cheers, Bob.

The APUG Conference looks like a great success. Perhaps I will being making a visit to another APUG Conference in Toronto at some point in the future. Will there be more pixelographic snaps of the conference posted to APUG?

Thanks Bob and everyone who helped organize this life time experience and all who participated and helped this project become a success. I sure hope so it will become something Apugers will say I got to go to at least once. I sertanally learned a lot thanks to Sandy,Les, Paula and Michael and all the others who were kind and helpful during the three days.I hope Jorge is doing well and we missed him at the conference.
Thanks also goes to Sean who had the intuition to organize and run a site that is growing in leaps and bounds. I did not have "Still video camera" so I have to wait to develop my film to post some images from the conference. Thanks Uncle Bill for providing your vehicle to get us to Kensington market for Street photography with Les.

I had a great time.

Greg

Just at the airport waiting on my flight to columbia S.C. and wanted to chime in. I could spend weeks trying to find the words to thank the conference planners but nothing I say can fully show the appreciation I feel. My time at the conference was something I'll treasure for the rest of my days. Thanks to all involved and I hope to see you again next year!

Sean

With much gratitude I offer a deep bow to Bob Carnie and all the staff, volunteers, instructors, sponsors, vendors, and attendees. I have returned home with a big smile on my face, many wonderful memories, and an incredible amount of inspiration and motivation to carry on!!!

Cheers, Krystyna

Here here, thanks to all the organizers, sponsers, volunteers, and presenters. You certainly set the bar pretty high for next year.

Dave

Without Bob Carnie and John Callow's efforts this would not have happened. I'm humbled and thankful to both of them.

I just got home, after a long 9 1/2 hours of flying, so I'll post more later.

thanks!

thanks from me as well! i had a blast. i really enjoyed toronto and i'm looking forward to the 2nd annual conference!

From the looks of the gallery shots, seems like a good time was had by all! I wish I could have attended, maybe next year....

By the way, was there any talk about where it might be next year?

Dave

I would also like to thank all those who worked so hard to make this happen. We should all remember that Bob and Kevin are still trying to run a business from their facility and they made room for us and organized a great learning/social experience in the bargain. Personally, everything that happened at the conference was a positive experience for me and I am grateful BUT, I am still floating on a cloud about the last portfolio review on Sunday. It was a long incredible day, to have a portfolio reviewed by Michael Smith/Paula Chamlee, then by Les McLean, and then by Tim Rudman. But when Tim Rudman said that he liked one of my prints so much that he wanted to swap with me, I was flabbergasted. He let me pick out any one of his that I wanted.
I think I am going shopping for a red lined cape this morning.

Tim R

Yes, thanks to Bob and John and all the volunteers for all their work in putting on this event. I couldn't afford to go this year, but maybe someday. And thanks to Sean, of course, for starting it all.

I hate you (just kidding).

Seriously though, that must be quite a print you made. I would absolutely love to have one of Tim's prints. Which one did you choose?

Thanks Travis,
I chose the "Stand of Trees at Dusk"

Was this your first time in Toronto ? Tell us what you thought ...

Tim R

"Stand of Trees at Dusk", I like that one, too. I plan on purchasing one his prints later this year (have to save a few bucks first). I think I'm going to get "Two and a Half Trees". That one really spoke to me.

Yes it was my first time in Toronto (actually first time in Canada period). I really enjoyed my time there, its a very nice city. I plan on visiting again sometime in the future. I particularly enjoyed the sunrise outing with Bill Smith and Robert Teague. We set up at a nice, quiet little spot in East Humber Bay Park (I think I have the name right) and got some good shots of the city skyline.

Toronto. But, that was mainly in conversation. It will take some time to assess this one to determine the finances, to determine whether it will be held again.

I had an excellent time at the conference, and I'd definately attend next year. John and Bob went above and beyond to help people and make sure everything went smoothly, in addition to teaching workshops.

It was obvious that a lot of preperations went into this, right down to small things like getting the parking variance on Industrial street. I think it was an ideal venue as the building combined large gallery space along with numerous darkrooms in which the workshops could be held. The tent out back was great to have space for the food, and the camera vendors to display their wares. I was able to get an excellent deal on some Canon gear, and I was drooling over some of the Ebony LF gear on display.

It was great to meet so many people and to put faces to the names. Simon from Ilford was really good at answering questions about Ilford and the future of their B&W products, his candor was refreshing. It's nice to get honest answers from someone at a decision making level within the company.

The weather was excellent and the conference couldn't have been better. Those who missed it should start saving for next year!

I'm with you on that one, Travis. BTW... my birthday is in August so you do have a wee bit of time to save up for it. hahaha  :D

It was GREAT meeting everyone, and Bob & John AND those who loaned them to us deserve TONS of thanks! Thanks Guys! :D

I would also like to thank Bob and John for pulling this off so successfully. In addition I don't think it could have been pulled off without the support of Kevin (Bob's partner I believe) and the rest of the Elevator staff. So thank you everyone.

My wife, Debi, was also able to attend with me and we both had a good time and feel we learned a bunch. It was nice to meet the people behind the names here, though I am still not sure of the APUG names of some of the people I met at the conference.

In addition to the organizers and the Elevator staff I think most of the instructors a deserve a hearty thank you as well. Well done everyone!

I took two workshops with Sandy King, and now have a good starting point for platinum or palladium printing, as well as carbon printing. However, I bet it will be a long time before my carbon prints can match Sandy's.

Debi and I both took child photography. Cheryl Jacobs was very informative, and I can see her methods of interacting with children working very well. She really seems to know the keys to her success and it is nice she is willing to share. I know our pictures will improve.

The cross processing workshop with John Callow was also very good. It was nice to hear both his technical as well as artistic ideas on the subject. I don't know how he managed to teach a workshop and organize the conference. I hope to get the color darkroom set back up soon and proof my first roll. After the process is worked out I look forward to trying the technique on a variety of subjects.

After Debi took Peter Schrager's intro to large format class she is now confident to pick up the camera and make some pictures. I've been trying to teach her to use it for years now, so what Peter accomplished in 4 hours is impressive.

I think the highlight of the conference for me was Les McLean's evening talk. Les is one of the most talented photographers out there, and one of the most entertaining speakers I've had the pleasure of hearing. Having the chance to see so many of his pictures and hear the stories behind them was a joy.

So, thanks again everybody!

Great Conference! A hearty well done to the organizers and volunteers. Workshops take a great deal of effort to prepare, so a special thanks to the workshop presenters for sharing their expertise at bargain prices.

I would like to also say "thank you" to MrCallow and Bob Carnie and everyone else who participated. It was extremely enjoyable and I learned a great deal. I almost got to see Les McClean climb a chain link fence in the dark, but, luckily, Dinesh had his flashlight. Thanks to the Gephardts for all of the rides too!

Best to all,

Will

It was a good thing the fence wasn't built right up to the building wasn't it? I really wasn't looking forward to going over the gate.
