Tetenal

I´d like to repeat that "Zerschlagung" means splitting up the company into pieces. We have a highly regulated labour market in Germany. You can never lay off people in Germany even if your busines model vanisches completely. Bankruptcy is the logical reason under such regulations in such a market setting. In what you call chapter 11 one can still not dismiss employees in Germany. You need to start the total liquidation first.
This is still a chance for the relatively small chemical business from Tetenal to find a new owner. In my personal opinion this is the only chance. The old Tetenal was a dinosaur. Probably the last one next to Fuji. They were more than twice the size of Harman to give you an impression. Most of their business (brand distribution) was in trouble due to non exisiting profits and the small parts making money could not make up for this anymore. I can perfectly understand this. It´s the same for us. Selling e.g. Kodak is absolutely pointless. You make nothing. Only if your own activities (own products / own brands) have a substantual share in your market mix you can survive in this highly competitive market. In my opinion the "Zerschlagung" involves more hope for the future than a buy out would have had. So I am still hoping for the best. Mirko

Good to hear this. Perhaps you could also provide sepatarate components as well. For example, a ready to use C41 bleach would be nice to have in 1l bottles.

This can all be done but for now we have Tetenal and let‘s see first if this really does not continue to be the case

This is reassuring as I've been thinking about getting back into colour processing. Would you be able to manufacture full 6 bath E6 kits as well as 3 bath C-41?

No, in Gernany one can close a business finally and lay off people regularly.
However this includes consulting the employees, observing lay-off time limits and likely severance pay.


The official statements had it about long term financial troubles, thus a reorganisation process could have started much earlier before running out of money. (Well, this is easy armchair talking based on official information, you likely have more insight in this very case.)

In the UK you can conveniently order a 6 bath Fuji kit from ag-photographic.

This is just news from yesterday. No official statement so far.
And the respective article is actually ambiguous on what to happen, whether Tetenal as complex will be dissolved, which still does not exclude parts surviving, at least in theory, or if it is actually decided to liquify all assets solely.
 
Tetenal’s application for restructuring under insolvency protection was first reported in early October 2018 by Digital Imaging (cached, German), who quoted the then Tetenal Europe GmbH Managing Director Daniel Middendorf as saying:

“For years, Tetenal has been under great pressure to adapt due to radical changes in our markets. This pressure from outside now requires us to review and adapt our entire structures. The reorganization path that has now been taken will put the company on a new footing and lead us to sustainable profitability.”

The business had been under a “self-administration” insolvency protection for nearly four months – essentially permitting the business to continue its activities while Middendorf attempted an independent restructuring of the business. Under the eye of a provisional administrator, a consulting team was brought in from Buchalik Brömmekamp to assist, although they were later replaced by Grantiro.

Sadly, the search for investors who would have allowed the business to continue operating was not successful. In spite of a number of interested parties coming forward during negotiations, no binding commitment was received and the District Court of Kiel ordered provisional insolvency administration on January 10th 2019.

Well, the Tetenal article, dated Jan. 29, 2019, was in the news column over at the DPreview web site and it stated they will close their doors at the end of the fiscal April 1st. Of course that's April Fools Day so who really knows if this is just a joke or not.
I just got a new 5L batch of Xtol too. My Xtol-Replenish is getting pretty cruddy after several years of use so I'm mixing a new batch. I'm still going to filter the old and use it to see how long I can keep it going. Xtol and Pyrocat-HDC and my developers of choice. Love them both for their results and shelf life. JohnW
 
I thought champion makes xtol and other Kodak chemicals..right wrong??
 
Sorry to say, but you mix up several things.
Furthermore legal terminology of german insolvency law is most tricky and understanding suffers even more by translation.

Also it is not beneficial to open the third thread on this issue.
 
Didn't know this was # 3 thread. An American translation will never be perfect. Whatever is incorrect, set it straight.

This topic has already been discussed elsewhere. I sent an email to Bellini, all they mean is that you don't need to wash between bleacher and fixer, but you DO need to wash thrughly after fixer and before stab. They also said it is advisable to use a stop bath after Developer especially for 120 size film to avoid streaks. I also suggest to wash between bleacher and fixer, and to increase the bleaching time

Champion did make Kodak chemicals in the past (they were in part a Kodak spin-off). Then, when Kodak went bankrupt, they ended up being one of the largest unpaid creditors.
Not surprisingly, they don't make Kodak chemicals any more.
 
My Kodak rapid fix and XTOL is labeled made in Germany, it's my assumption that Tetenal makes it. Alaris is still making color chemistry in China.

I wish we could still get all the sundries that EKC produced in the glory days. Pure tested chemicals.
