Tetenal C41 processing for black and white?

Hello Folks, I’m posting this here and on the B&W Chemistry forum. I am processing some film for a friend, and that film includes 4 rolls of 120 C41 film. There is one roll of Ilford XP2 and three rolls of Kodak 400BW. I googled “c41 processing Columbus” and only one place showed up. I called them, and they process color C41, but not black and white C41. I considered buying a Tetenal C41 kit. Has anyone ever used that to process B&W film? Are there any special issues?

No special issues in my experience. If it's a chromogenic B&W film such as XP2+ or Kodak's equivalent it responds to C41 exactly as a colour neg film would.

So if you have decided to develop it yourself then just follow the C41 procedure and you'll be fine.

Unless you really want to do it yourself, most places doing C-41 wouldn't know that your film is black and white before they are done processing it, and it will come out just fine. When you asked them on the phone, most likely they only heard the words "black and white", assumed you have TMAX or HP5+ and concluded that they can't process these with their C-41 processing line.

I take the Kodak BW.... over to a local CVS all the time to process. This particular CVS has a reputation of doing a good job and gets quite a bit of film from the community. I just hope the young lady who runs the processor never quits. Anyway, it will process/print just fine.

Interesting. As it turns out, the guy for whom I’m developing the traditional film said that he would take care of the C41 stuff; which means that I’m off the hook. But yes, I would have thought that C41 was C41, color or chromogenic. The lady I talked to on the phone made the presumptious statement that “nobody in Ohio would develop it”. She also said that they only develop 120, not 220. Oh, well.

If this comes up again, assuming you're a member, I suggest going to Costco in Polaris. The Easton location does not have the equipment to develop film but the Polaris one does and the prices are much better than I've seen from a lab you have to mail the film to. I had four rolls developed and scanned for under $10. Since Cord closed, that's the only local place I know of for sure that still processes film on-site. You might also try the Target in Easton, but I haven't checked there in years. Like others stated, you probably confused them by mentioning B&W. Just take it in. If they say anything, point out where it says C-41 on the cartridge. I had to do that to get Target to process it once.

Where did you call that said they would do 120? The only local place I ever knew of was the 5th Ave. Cord, which stopped doing it on site a while before they closed. I use the Unicolor C-41 kit myself, but it would be nice to have a local option in case I get backed up and can't find the time to develop for a while.
