Panatomic-X, Technical Pan and Rollei Retro 100 Tonal in a "shoot out"
I prefer to shoot film instead of debating with conservatives

I have been out shoting som more film for finding out how it reacts to different combos.
Today it was Kodak Technical Pan, Kodak Panatomic-X and Rollei Retro 100 Tonal in my bag. All in 120.

Technical Pan shot at ISO 20 developed in Rodinal 1+300, Panatomic-X shot at ISO 20 developed in Rodinal 1+50 and Retro 100 Tonal shot at ISO 50 developed in Rodinal 1+300

The 3 first links are re-sized and sharpened shots to show the object:

Panatomic-X: http://www.tmax100.com/photo/panx_tp_tonal/panx.jpg

The next 3 links are 100% crop of the nameplate on the right corner of this object taken from the pictures in the 3 first links at full size:

All the shots above are done with Hasselblad 500C and a 150mm Carl Zeiss T* F4 on F8

The next 3 are 100% crop with Hasselblad 500C 150mm Carl Zeiss T* F4 on F8 with 55mm extension tube. Distance from wall 60-70 cm:

Nice examples.

Well I took some time for a walk along the river Maas.

Here my example, now on 35mm, equipment: Leica M7 + Summicron 2,0/50mm
Retro 100 Tonal film, E.I. 50 in CG512/RLS 1+4 for 14:00 minutes, 24C. An easy development (= room temperature) on the attic due to the warm weather.

I have just printed a 4x5 negative on Foma MG131 30x40 cm.

Tonal was developped in PMK. Print was selenium toned.

Kompressor,

The seemingly consistent white spots on the Tonal images would drive me nuts, and throw out the film. If I understand you correctly it only happens on the Tonal film?

(reminds me of the scratches on the Foma 120 film I have tested for Sander or emulsion less spots on many of my MACO IR 4*5 film negatives, printing as ugly black holes: these are examples of less than optimal QC to put it mildly..)

Best,

Cor

It IS the water, I also tested them out. With simple demi water you do not have it. BTW I did not have them with AM74 (in tap water) or CG512 as well. With Rodinal the "problem" is there. Not sure where it's comming from.

Left side is light leak
You have to keep the roll straight and tight when unloading. Polyester tends to unroll so tight and closing the end strip. Otherwise you will have a light leak on Polyester film material (Foma, Efke, Rollei aso.) .

Polyester has advantages and disadvantages but this Polyester film lays down very straight where Fomapan 100/400 and Efke 25-50-100 on 120 rollfilm (Polyester) is curling much.

Next Tonal film is on adventures Ravenstein 650 years, incl. a battle field near the river Maas. E.I. 100. 667 RF camera.

So it's comming from the very fresh emulsion.

It is the (orthochromatic) sensitizer in fresh emulsion extra sensitive for calcium and materials (e.g. iron) in the tap water.

Robert,

Schroeder had it about Calcium, not Calgon.
