tele-rolleiflex samples?

Anyone have any samples of a tele-rolleiflex portrait shot at the minimum distance?

This camera interests me; however, it's pricey and I'm not sure if I'll ever own one but if I ever cave in, I'm wondering if I can get buy without Rolleinar's. I'm not looking for tight head shots. I know the min focus is 8 feet but I want to have a better sense in how a portrait would look like.

It's about the same as a 90mm lens on 35mm. I don't have any particular examples to hand at the moment, but there's a Rolleiflex group on Facebook and also Flickr wher you can see examples.
However, the depth of field on a Tele Rolleiflex at wide apertures is VERY shallow, and at minimum distance it's even more so.

You could always just get a Mamiya TLR with any of the telephoto lenses and have a top notch performer!

You may want to look up Sanders McNew (his apug username is rolleiflexible). I think he uses primarily a tele rolleiflex in his portrait work.

I have a Tele-Rolleiflex and absolutely love it. Amazing lens. Min focus distance is 2.6 meters though and for most portrait work you're going to need Rolleinars. I use them all the time keeping them permanently on the camera and flipping it put of the way when not wanted. Terrific for portrait work but also great for landscape short-tele shots too. True, the Mamiya 135 mm lens pair are excellent for portraits, and focus down to 35 and a half inches, the 180 mm lens pair will focus to about 47 inches.

Both, I think (and also a 5x7" Norma and occasionally the Voigtlander Superb (with Heliar) that I sold him). I know he owns a Tele-Rolleiflex.

What is a Rollienar?
Is that a supplemental close up attachment?

I once found a set of Portra +1 etc in a speed graphic kit in series 6.
Never really used them to form an opinion because I had the Ektar 203mm
203mm isn't really that long for 4x5 but the lens is great.

A Rolleinar (or Rolleiparkeil which is the older three-piece variant) is indeed a close-up attachment.

Thanks a lot for the advice and examples.

I saw a portrait at the min focus without Rolleinar's and I'd definitely want/need atleast the weaker one, maybe both to fully utilize the camera. About the Mamiya. I owned a C220 and I just didn't like it, so I sold it for a Rolleiflex which I prefer. But it's a heck of a lot cheaper, that's for sure!

I haven't been looking at the prices but I'm sure that I can't afford one now... but maybe in the future. I'm surely fancing that idea.

I remember getting mine for $950 or so a few years ago and thinking I got a bargain. Seeing what the Rolleinar sets are going for now is sadly ridiculous too.

A nice camera to use once you get over the annoying bit of adding the Rolleinars - I have a spare set of Rolleinar 0.7, the hinged one, if anyone needs them, just not very cheap

However, in reality, a cheaper option could be a Hbd 500CM with 120/150mm lens and a couple of tubes - But having both I can confirm the TR is much nicer and quieter, too many bits of metal flying around in a Hbd

I too vote for a C2 or C3 series in lieu of the Rollei unless you are really a serious photographer needing that difference in quality, regardless of how minor. Just too much for the teleRollies for steady use. Basically, they are in the price range of a collector's shelf.

I think so- I'll try it on mine. They're still a Bayonet 3 attachment, and the lens hoods work on them, so I don't see why the cap wouldn't, unless the front surface of the Rolleinar element sticks out too far.

An option would be to find one of the 1.5X Mutars which bayonets to your standard-issue Rolleiflex. Rather expensive these days and reviews are mixed.
