l just took a chance on a spool of this outdated film. It’s B&W movie stock rated at GOST 90 (ISO 100). It was cheap.

I could take a few guesses and narrow developing time down but if anyone already has experience with this film, a starting point would save me some time and some film. I keep D-76, HC-110 and Rodinal in the house, but I won’t refuse times for other developers.

The MDC doesn’t list KN-3 at all and I can’t seem to turn much up on the net.

Also note that Tasma made another film, NK-3, which was ISO 250, but this is the slower KN-3.

Thanks!

Wow... nobody’s used this film?

I guess I’ll need to do a little experimenting.

well, how'd it turn out?
It's a work in progress. I'll admit, though, there hasn't been much progress....

I started by trying to determine a working speed for the film. Since I had no idea what I was dealing with I made test exposures from ISO 100 all the way down to ISO .75 and stand developed it in Rodinal 1:100. I don't have a densitometer so my tests are far from scientific but I determined that the speed is somewhere in the ISO 25-32 neighborhood. And that's where everything stopped.

I got busy with other stuff and I'm about to gut my darkroom to reconfigure it so I've cut back considerably on my tinkering. Once I'm back up and running I'll use ISO 25 as my working speed and then try some other developers to see what I get. I'd like to get the contrast up from my first test so I'll be trying higher dilutions such as Rodinal 1+25 and HC-110 B. I may see what D-19 or Diafine give me as well but first I'll try the more pedestrian developers. It may be a month or so before I'm back on it.
