Does anyone have a source for repair tape for (8x10) holders? Appears to be cloth tape.

Search Calumet's website. I purchased some the other day. It's back ordered about 3-4 weeks.

I just bought a roll of gaffers tape. It works great. John Nannian also indicates that book binders tape works well.

'Artists' tape from the art supply shop works well for me. It comes in any number of widths, so you can get it in just the right size and just cut it to length. I've re-done quite a few holders with this type of tape.

Stupid question: Does it go over the tape already there or is the old tape removed first?

This question came up probably 2 or 3 years ago and I believe it was Sandy King who recommended bookbinders tape from Gaylord Library Supply. I got some and it works great. Sorry, I don't remember the product number. Maybe Sandy will see this and respond.

I've used bookbinders tape, and it has held up well. Yes, remove the old tape first.

I used gaffers tape with success, though it is quite stiff compared to the original and makes opening the trap a little harder. Next time I'll try something different...

Thanks all, for your help. Looks like bookbinders or gaffers tape will fit the bill and double thanks for question about removing the old stuff first!

Another suggestion: after peeling the tape away, try Motsenbocker's Lift Off #2 Tape Remover to get any residual adhesive off. It's available in a well stocked hardware store.

Which of the many book tapes at Gaylord would you guys recommend. The Filmoplast is more than $35 per 33 foot roll. Is it the best?

Thank you.

Try: www.TalasOnline.com Nice folks, fun to poke around in their stockroom and see what tools bookbinders use. Check out their catalog.

Filmoplast T is $12.90 for the 10 meter X 3cm (1.25 in); item TAD051001:

Be daring - get the red!

I prefer the Bookcraft cloth tape with release backing to the Filmoplast. The Bookcraft is cotton cloth, but made waterproof with a vinyl coating. It comes in rolls of 5, 15 and 30 yards. If you wanted a roll 5 yards X 3" wide the order number would be CW-2559R-01 and costs $10.85. The 01 designation is black. Other colors are available. You can repair a lot of holders with 5 yards of tape.

I just fixed a Fidelity Elite with some Thermoplast T. Worked very well. Talas has some odd colors on closeout and I bought red for $8.65.
