.....trading / selling my Nikon pre-AI system for a Canon FD system, a la F-1n

...and go.

By the way the last time this happened with a Yashicalux rangefinder I ended up buying it.

Already have a 50mm 1.4 S.S.C.

The last time you did this you had to rebuild your Nikon kit. And I believe you have still been trying to do so correct. What is so special about the Canon gear? Does it cover a need that the Nikon doesn't?

Dibs on 20/3,5 UD if you sell.

I didn't realize how cheap FD glass was, and it uses the same optics my EF system uses, but I like the manual focus. Good FD glass is everywhere here for next to nothing.

Minolta glass is the same way price wise but quality is still high. Don't you already have a plenty of Nikon glass to cover your needs? If not, I would keep what you have and build on that instead of starting over with a new system. You didn't see me selling all my Minolta gear when I got the Nikon bug did ya? Right now I have four systems in 35mm besides the FFRF's, Olympus, Minolta, Konica and Nikon. I tend to go through phases and will run one system for a while and then move to the others back and forth. Could you not build both without sacrificing either?

j-dogg, you came to the wrong place to be talked out of it.

Buy it so that you can sleep tonight.

Lens compatibility stinks with the Canon FD system. Buy AI and AI-S glass, and it will work fine on pre-AI bodies, AI bodies, and even the latest Nikons, digital as well as film. If it is one or the other, it's an easy choice IMO. However, I have both. :D

F it I'll buy another FD system and keep it with my Nikon system. damn GAS

Deep down you knew that was your only real choice didn't you?

Best thing to do is keep the Nikon gear and buy the Canon gear. That way you have more gear and that's a good thing.

That's what I did. I own both systems. When I'm in a Nikon mood, I grab my Nikon F. When I'm in a Canon mood, I grab my old F-1. Either way, I'm always happy.

Back in the 80's I had an AE-1 but sold it and went to Minolta. Never did click with the Canon and I don't know why, it was a nice camera.

I really like the Canon FD/FL and bodies from that era but I have so far resisted the urge to check some if only because I have soooo much gear now I cant shooot it all.

I really like the A1 and I think the exotic L glass may be better then similar Nikon offerings although I have no solid user comparison in my own right.

I made the mistake  of cheecking into older german 35mm rangefinders so I should be busy for awhile.

Good luck whatever you decide (is it really a decision for us anymore? )
Kinda like old guitars in my case. There is barely a rational decision process anymore.

Bruce, I had to decide cameras or guitars, cameras won and so I sold most of my guitars to financ cameras. The only regret I have is selling my Taylor's.

You shouldn't because FD glass is so cheap and...nevermind. If you're planning on keeping it for a while I may go with Minolta instead, Canon prices are slightly higher for no apparent reason that I can think of other than brand. When I sold a lot of my surplus gear, the first thing to go was all of the Canon stuff.

I have all my daughters Canon gear sitting here for sale, I kinda like the stuff. I'm not a fan of do-it-all-for-me cameras, but I like the T-70, especially like the glass, bulky as it is compared to my Olympus gear. I'm glad I tried it out.

Cameras take up less space and don't require so much attention. I had two humidity controlled cabinets for all my acoustics plus replacing stings every couple months got to be tedious and expensive. Electrics need amps and they take up a lot of space as well and I got to the point I wasn't playing them that often because of pain in my wrists and hands. I still have an Alvarez and an Olympia classical. My guns on the other hand is a different story.

I guess it's too late now. I could have had you speak with my ex-wife: she could talk anyone out of anything ...

We don't need those here!

Steve.

We may not need em here but when that punk tried to hold up the convienience store at 2am as I was getting a cup of coffee, my Nikon F wouldn't have convinced him otherwise as well as my .40 did.

All I have left now is a Squire Strat

I have one too. Nothing wrong with that (apart from it having a solid body and no 'Gretsch' logo on the headstock!!).

Steve

The Squier Classic Vibes are actually very good guitars for the money. Trying to talk myself out of the pine Tele...
