Can anybody tell me if the film base on Tmax 400 120 roll film is the same as density Tmax 400 8x10 sheet film.
I want to do some tests for carbon printing but don't want to waste a full 8x10 sheet to get a 50mm strip of film.
Thanks

"Kodak found in a 2007 survey that there was an ongoing commitment to black-and-white film. They decided to improve both the grain and sharpness of T-Max 400, and it took them 18 months to do it. Large-format photographers who used a UV light source to print platinum/palladium were bothered by the UV dye layer on the back of the old T-Max 100 sheet film (it protected the film against static electricity). The new T-Max 400-2 is free of UV dye in both 120 and sheet film, though 35mm T-Max 400-2 does have the UV dye layer." Photo Technique 2009

Photo Technique was one of my favorite mags. Sad to say it stopped publishing last year.

Probably a rather sizeable difference in thickness. Never saw a 120 film that wasn't thin and flimsy and a sheet film that wasn't thick. Litho-offset film excluded.

My guess is that you will find that the thicker film base of sheet film will block a little more UV than the thinner 120 film base.

I have used Scotch tape to hold negs onto the printing frame's glass (for carbon printing) and even that blocks enough UV to be seen in the print.

Sheet film and roll film substrate are usually very different.
