I am not completely surprised. Electronic focal plane cameras [how is that for distancing oneself from the d-word] use software [actually firmware] to process the images. A common software error is and off-by-one error. Therefore it is evident that he has incremented not once but twice in error => that would read: M8 -1 was upgraded to a M9 -1 ... a M7 was upgraded to a M8.

Of course that would imply that a M7 is not a film camera. hmmm ... I need to rethink this one. :confused:

May be a M8 was replaced by a M8???

Interested readers want to know!!

So, are you saying every person in PA voted for Gore in 00? There had to be at least one who didn't!

I was tempted to ask him how you develop it then, since all developers are intended to convert the silver grains. I desisted.

Stupidity exposed!

I own a lab in sydney and once had a client come in whom had shot a few rolls of 35mm film and wanted them processed. she brought the films in to me removed from their canisters totally exposed to light and asked me to develop them. I was confused and asked her why? and after confusion It all became clear to me she didnt understand that once you have shot on the film you shouldnt try to remove it from the canister unless your going to process it in the darkroom!!!!! The film was ruined and I still to this day am stunned that a grown woman forced open film canisters to remove the film and take it to a lab.

I went to a workshop once when a young woman opened a full box of 16x20 paper. It said on the box "open only in photographic darkroom". Well, we were in the darkroom and the box did not say that the lights should be off!

There is, however, no sexual bias to stupidity. When I ran a photographic service in a university department in the 1970s, I was frequentlly asked to develop film shot by scientists with PhDs, etc. On occasion this was wound back into the cassette inside-out or without pressing the rewind button (all 1.60 of film rewound over a stationary camera sprocket, ripped right along the sprocket holes on both sides from one end to another). This was of course in addition to the "normal" mistakes of forgetting lens caps with RF cameras, setting ISO wrongly on metered cameras. etc.

C-41 films still have silver content, of course. Whether they have more latitude than Tri-X depends on what is meant by latitude, a term I dislike because it seems to have as many definitions as there are photographers.

It's a surprising error for a club member, but forgivable, surely? The implied sexism is another matter.

I know the guy at the club may have been thinking of chromogenic B&W films, so I won't totally ignore him, etc.. But I'm not going to ask him to go shooting with me either.

I thought it meant, "Push here, dummy!"

I wouldn't go shooting with him either, especially guns!

It terrifies me that these people vote, and sit on juries, and get elected to important office. I am scared to death of the ignorance and stupidity. And by a culture that doesn't encourage intellectual curiosity and achievement.

I'd guess we all have horror stories of stupidity we have seen or been subjected to. Just look at how many people fall for spammers.

According to David Vestal, lattitude is what you can get away with in a photograph.

Hmmm ... no silver, eh? Hehehe ... tell'em the difference between a full frame CCD and DX size CMOS chip is the CCD doesn't use silicon. That's why there's no "S". Except for the Nikon FF CCD, it's 0.1mm x 0.2mm less than a FF size, so it's called an NCCD. Betcha he'll buy it.

One of the things I always admired about Texas - Their legislature only meets every other year. Sounds pretty good to me.
