Good Afternoon, Dave

It may be worth the time to test some T-Max sheet film in standard T-Max developer. For years, I failed to note the warning against that on the bottle. Fortunately I was, and am, getting terrific results on sheet film with regular T-Max.

I think the bottles of Regular TMax and TMax RS may be identical, except for the small bottle of "RS" (I'm sure that is not the proper name) that is included in the box of TMax RS developer. So if you want regular TMax, you can buy the RS version and not add the contents of the small bottle.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

TMax developer is really nice when replenished. It takes a bit of the highlight edge off and produces slightly finer grain, sharper negatives, at the expense of about 1/3 stop speed. Very beautiful prints from it.

"Note: Do not use T-MAX RS Developer and Replenisher to replenish T-MAX Developer."

So sayeth the TMax / TMAx RS datasheet.
(of course, that may very well be because it doesn't work, or maybe just because Kodak doesn't want you doing it)

Or maybe because Kodak doesn't want you doing it, because it doesn't work?

I wonder if there are sources out there who don't stock one of the two versions because the ordering department or local distributor doesn't understand that they are two different developers.

Well, yeah, it's probably a case of Occam's Razor, because it just doesn't work. ("nah man, it's all a huge conspiracy to get you to buy the more expensive one" says the conspiracy theorist on the internets)

I saw a local guy selling TMax RS on fleabay including the text "I had to specially import it because RS isn't available in Aus". I haven't looked in every store, but given what else I know of chemical availability here, I'm inclined to believe him, although I might ask my local chemical shop anyway next time I'm there. (We also can't get Fujihunt 6X 5L kits here, I've asked the local Fuji rep and there's just not the market size).
