John,

I have a full blown merchant account as well, only about 40% of my orders come from my website, if I had only been using paypal, I would not have made the statement, I don't pay fee's on the refunds that occur on my merchant account either..

Dave

Dave,

I believe that if you read the fine print of your merchant agreement you'll see that if you were to charge 25-50K in a month and then refund it all there would be serious fees involved. But, please PM me off line and let me know who you use. I'd love to have that flexibility if it is available.

Thanks.

John

I sent my order via snail mail last week for 7x17 (BTW, John, may I add some boxes to this order directly by email ?). I hope it's easy to refund money to foreign - here french - consumers

I have the same problem than others : no time between Kodak and Ilford end of orders. The best would be to share the order between TMY and FP4, but it's so expensive ! At first, given the way the initiatives were presented, I was pretty sure that the purchase of TMY would function, while I was not certain that Ilford would cut film, but I decided to order both films by security and to try to help both. But now, I'm again wondering what to do  It's not a good thing for the future that these two offers occurs at the same time because of the small market.

Jimmy

If you've sent in the form with a credit card number it's no problem adding to the order by email. We're not charging any cards unless the deal goes through. So there is no refund issue.

Thanks

Ok, let me see if I am clear with this. If I send you the form with my CC number, you will not make a charge nor will you put a hold on the amount until the deal goes thorugh? I would like to commit to 4 boxes, but I have way too many expenses this month to think of buying film. If all you want is the assurance that next month or so I will be able to pay then I am in and will e mail you the form.

I am not completely sure, but I think it is illegal for a retailer to charge for an item until it is ready to ship.

Not on special orders or custom made items, you can charge at the time of order if you want. It depends on the policies of the particular company.

It will depend on the law in your country. I used to think this was the case in the UK until I had a problem recently.

Dito what Jorge said, I've got a nine to five so laying out that kind of coin in advance is a tough sell to the accountant (ie wife). I'm in for a 2 boxes, What is J&Cs responce here? Will this fly?

That's one of the reasons why you have to sign the form agreeing to the terms of the sale. Everyone does this for special orders. Go to B&H and others and look up a special order product and their terms and conditions. Merchants would never place special orders if they could not be sure of getting paid or even having the money up front to obtain custom products which they don't normally sell.

No I'm sorry, I can't work on an assurance that at some point in the future a payment will be made. When we order the film we have to pay Kodak for it. It doesn't help us to place the order with Kodak without the cash commitment. If everything works out we will have the standard ULF sizes in stock afterwards, without the preorder discount. If you can't participate now that's fine, I understand money is tight. You can still get it later, if everything works out. I understand everyone has money concerns and things are tight. Please also understand that this is a very expensive deal and we have money concerns too.

For clarification here are the terms as stated on the web site:

"All pre-orders need to be fully prepaid by check, money order or credit card to be accepted. We will authorize your credit card upon receipt of the order. Once we meet the minimum order volume to place the order with Kodak we will charge your card for your order.

Because of the special nature of this purchase there can be no refunds or returns.

You may also make your payment using PayPal (sales@jandcphoto.com). However, this form with your order and signature must be sent to us for your order to be accepted. Orders made using PayPal will be charged to your account upon placing the order."

Fair enough, I sure hope the deal comes through even if I am unable to participate now.
