Just in the few messages I have read here, the point is being lost, LF is not about speed, there is a very deliberate process involved in LF photography, that a great many savior and enjoy a whole bunch, to make the choice to shoot LF as it is suspose to be shot, is not trying to figure out how to do it fast, I am well aware of the handheld masters that do shoot with 4 x 5 gear, this is a different type of photography, it is called press photography and takes a great amount of skill as well, and I really admire the greats of the present and the past that choose and participate in this type of photograpy. But Large Format photography in the truest sense is taking the time to make the exposure and does require a different type of person, setup and goal than any other type of photography, I shoot LF, MF as well as a great amount of 35mm, and take each one of the venues with a completely different mind set.
And there is still nothing that beats a well exposed, well executed shot on transparancie film in 4x5, 5x7 or 8x10 and if you get real ambisious as I did for a while, try a few 20 x 24 transparancies, it will take your breath away!
