Greetings,

Looking to see what kind of activity this Great Lakes Region as far as South West Oh, KY and IN areas. I live here in Dayton Ohio. I enjoy shooting 6X6 and 645, dable in 4x5, do the D word too.

I'm looking for others in the area to see if this group is active in this area, outings, swap meets gatherings and such.

I too am in Dayton (I work downtown by Schuster). My boss mainly shoots the D stuff, but I'm migrating back to analog after quite a while (35mm and 6x6), though I still like to play around with the strobist style stuff too. I'm relatively new to APUG after having been a lurker for quite a while. I've noticed that the two main local clubs/groups are almost entirely non-analog any more so I haven't really been interested in joining them. Depending on what subject matter you like to shoot I've noticed that the MetroParks from time to time have some decent nature walks and photography related activities. Plus Outdoor Photographer has Sugarcreek Metropark listed as one of their top favorite places to shoot.

Unfortunately, most photo groups, events, and activities seems to be in either Columbus or Cinci.

Chiron,

Hi, welcome, I have found this thread but see there is hardly no activity in it. Glad to see someone else out here enjoys film too.

Opportunity to cross paths this weekend, talk about photography and learn some things. Sat and Sun at the Dayton Convention center is the Professional Photographers of Ohio Convention. I'm going on Sunday. I will only attend the trade show part. I have 1/2 off coupons in pdf format if you would like me to email it to you.

I'm at daleeman@yahoo.com

Hi,
Just was down at the Pro Photographers of Ohio conference in Dayton this weekend. Had a good time. Let loose my old Mamiya 645 stuff to KEH. Cold not part with the Hassy.

Wondered how active this group is/was.

There are some APUGers from OH, PA, MI, and more who sporadically gather at the Cuyahoga National Park on the eastern end of OH. It's a good group - just keep your eye on threads on this area to see when something gets planned again. If that's too far for you, come up with something near you to shoot and you may be able to entice some to travel your direction.

Bethe,
Thanks for the insight. I used to live in Rocky River up by Cleveland and enjoyed the area... in the summer! Hope to find this gathering and attend.

The one really big event here is the Dayton Air Show, although I get burned out on it year after year it can be great fun with press passes, you can go just about anywhere and shoot from some incredible angles.

There is a lot of beautiful country here too but as one who has lived in this area for a while, I oftne thing of other places first before my own back yard.

Welcome to APUG. Check out the NE OH Gathering May 14-16, 2010 thread that ic-racer linked. My wife Dolly and I are the hosts. All film shooters welcome. We have done several of these over the past two years. There are usually people there from four surrounding states or further. It has been a chance for like minded people to get together, and fun for all. Our guests seem to have liked it because they have taken very good care of the place while having fun and they keep coming back. One bad apple could make a mess of it, but our guests have made that not happen.

Welcome to APUG! I have some family and some friends from Ohio.

Jeff
Hay Jeff,
Thanks for the message. I've been tied up with a nuber of things and have lost track of the thread. Hope you get back to Ohio soon. Its a good place to visit/live.

I'm in Dayton, where are you?
Lee

Welcome, Dale. Lived in Cincinnati doing grad work in the late 1960s early 1970s. One of the most photogrenic cities in America, I found. Go Bearcats!

Hi Lee from Cincinnati and welcome!

The two main gatherings in the area have been at John's in NE Ohio and Photostock up in Northern Michigan hosted by Bill Schwab. My schedule has not been gracious enough to make it to John's yet. I hope that changes this year. Unfortunately Photostock 2010 has been canceled but there are a many who are still heading up there towards the end of June. Look for a post about Going Rouge!!

Also, it's likely that some folks in the area are going to try and coordinate a small get together in conjunction with an exhibit here in Cinci at the Taft Museum this summer.

I know there are other discussions about doing something this year in the KY, Southern Ohio, Indiana areas this year as well.

I spent an evening and day at Clifton Gorge, Glen Helen, and John Brian a couple years ago with a fellow APUG member and would love to get back there. Just gorgeous. Maybe we can coordinate something.

Take care and hope to meet you and burn some film this year.

Hello! I just joined up here at APUG- I live near Dayton too, specifically down in Bellbrook. Have been shooting mostly 35mm but recently have been playing with medium format and even jumped into large format. Looking forward to learning as much as I can on these forums!

I'm also in the Dayton area (in Englewood now). I joined up here a while back but have mostly been just reading rather than posting.

Anyone here familiar with the Tripod Camera Club in the south end of town? My wife and I are thinking of attending to see how we like it.

Never gone to either of the camera clubs in town (Focus & Tripod) I work evenings and can never make any of the meetings.

Hi,
Nice folks at Focus, did that for 2 years, enjoyed one trip to the Cincinnati Train Museum in , actually it is in Kentucky.... (Its one of those confusing Cincinnati Airport Things).

Certainly would like to step up the shooting in this area. PM me any time, and check into the Hocking Hills walk about at the Frozen Film Shoot in February.
