hello fellows
i bought a very nice lens for my spotmatic, its focus is smooth, lenses are not sxratched but dirty. outside is easy, but one of the lenses in the front group looks hazy. from my point of view its the kind of haze that can be cleaned up nicely.
so.. as i have some experience in dismantling a lens and cleaning the elements i just wanted to ask for guidance, as this lens is unknown to me and i have never taken apart a lens with 8 elements.
any advice would be appreciated
kind regards, chris

Wow. These are kinda special. I guess I'd be very tempted to have it cleaned by a competent, trained professional.

I can't really help you, but I do remember when I purchased mine. It was discounted heavily because the case it came in disintegrated and got dust all inside the lens, including all over the internal lens elements. I was able to open it up myself and clean everything out. I don't remember how I did it and don't have any photos or anything from that time, but I do remember that that was my first or second lens to ever take apart, and it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I remember the only thing that really gave me trouble was keeping the room dust free. I recall having to disassemble and reassemble the same parts over and over again because more dust had gotten inside by the time I got the next part installed.

Have you taken apart a lens before? If not, I probably wouldn't start off with this one, just because it's such a nice lens to begin with. It would be wise to practice on a cheap lens first, as it'll give you experience using a spanner wrench (which is easy to have slip and scratch an element) and allow you to establish a workflow so you don't accidentally install a lens element upside down. Once they're out of the barrel, the tops and bottoms tend to look pretty much the same, so it's really easy to space out for just a second and forget which way something goes.

A google search for Super Taukmar 50 1.4 resulted in these links.

https://takumarguide.weebly.com/1--14--50-358-8-element.html shows a lens diagram. The front of the lens is on the left. The gap between the two concave elements is where the aperture is. 3 air spaced elements front, 3 cemented and 2 air spaced rear. Should not be difficult to do. The rear element sticks out from the barrel and is easily damaged.
Thank you very much. That was really helpful. It worked nicely. enjoying my new and CLEAN lens low.
cheers
